Footballwipe Posted 12 November 2024 Posted 12 November 2024 Lots of talk about Chapman getting it and he's the obvious successor , but there were a few mentions of Gabby Logan. A timely reminder that Gabby Logan is probably the most criminally underused football/sports presenter of the last 25 years by a distance. She is absolutely brilliant and a crying shame she never got the #1 gig on a major TV outlet. Even when Lynam went from ITV in 2004 she was shoved aside a couple of years later for Steve Rider. 2
Fox92 Posted 12 November 2024 Posted 12 November 2024 Legend for this club and a good presenter. He might be "out of touch" with match going fans, as some on here put it, but he is one of our biggest advocates so it's a shame to lose that. I like Chapman and hope he gets it.
Spudulike Posted 12 November 2024 Posted 12 November 2024 Kelly Cates would do a decent job. Always liked her Sunday night 5-Live show with Ian Wright. 3
UniFox21 Posted 12 November 2024 Posted 12 November 2024 https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2024/11/12/gary-lineker-bbc-motd-exit-nazi-germany-legacy-podcasts/ Is a bit of a shame the entire narrative is about things he's tweeted rather than the good he's done for sports presenting etc
AjcW Posted 12 November 2024 Posted 12 November 2024 Interesting timing. BBC renewed until 2029 and other channels declined to bid, you'd assume because Lineker looked to be staying? If they don't get the replacement right it could be a rather painful end to MOTD over the next 5 years. Personally I think he's great, absolutely love the podcast too, I assume he'll be focussing on building that empire (Goalhanger are probably the biggest podcast producer currently) and carrying on with his other presenting jobs. Pleased they've managed to keep him for the World Cup.
OnlyOneCity Posted 12 November 2024 Posted 12 November 2024 We won’t hear Leicester City mentioned outside of their game highlights, once Gary goes. Great to have a legend throwing our name in so often. Will have to rely on Roy Cropper bringing back City names in the cafe. Remember Claridge on his gas equipment many years ago?

Hard to pin down why but I think she has a little awkwardness to her. I watch The Overlap and there's something amiss with her presenting style. 1

Let's face it he proved everyone wrong and then some with his presenting career. Quite easily the best football presenter there is and will very likely only be properly appreciated when he's gone. He makes it look so easy which really is the art to it. I remember when he started he was pretty awful but now has his own style and is pretty superb at it 3
Elsie Effcee Posted 12 November 2024 Posted 12 November 2024 I remember watching his first broadcast, way back, he was terrible, stiff and nervous. He became a relaxed natural and claimed that spot. I do think he was grossly overpaid for the time he put in however. But apparently he ain't going until 2026 so why tell us now? There's a very good change they'll pick a woman. I love Jeff Stelling's personality but i don't think he needs a job
Torquay Gunner Posted 12 November 2024 Posted 12 November 2024 Incredible to think that Lineker started back in 1999, makes me feel really old. No idea who his successor should be, however there are some that I would n’t want such as Scott, Walcott and thankfully Jenas is out of the running.
ren Posted 12 November 2024 Posted 12 November 2024 Gets so much stick from our fans for someone who has done a lot for the club, however I think it is mostly our more right wing leaning fans. Whether you like or dislike him MOTD will die a death after he goes, can see Shearer following suit too.
Daggers Posted 12 November 2024 Posted 12 November 2024 Maya Jama did very well on Save Our Summer. I’d probably watch the show if she presented. 3
Guest Lako42 Posted 12 November 2024 Posted 12 November 2024 Change the theme tune for the new season and football is finally gone. We can all draw a line under it and take up gardening
CUJimmy Posted 12 November 2024 Posted 12 November 2024 Whether you like him or not he is excellent at bringing the best out of the expert panel and his rapport with Shearer and Ricards in particular makes it great viewing in my opinion. Combine this with the credibility he has as someone who has played the game at the highest level and there is nobody who can be a direct replacement. The BBC needs to decide if they want an experienced, confident presenter (Chappers being the obvious example) who relies on guests for the expert input or someone who has played at the top level but needs to hone their presenting skills. If they go for the latter it will take time as it did with Linekar. 1
Popular Post Daggers Posted 12 November 2024 Popular Post Posted 12 November 2024 I love that Links makes people who use the word ‘snowflake’ cry. They couldn’t help themselves in this thread, right from the off. Feeble twats. 5
ramboacdc Posted 12 November 2024 Posted 12 November 2024 With Gary and Huw Edwards gone, the BBC has saved a wedge for sure. I wonder if MoTD is close to running it's course. As someone was saying on LBC earlier, there is most likely only a certain generation now who wait until Saturday night to watch highlights when extended highlights are on YouTube 15 minutes after the final whistle.

I still watch MOTD but it's usually recorded so I can Sunday morning over breakfast and I can skip some analysis or straight to a specific game.

When I was a kid it was on well after my bedtime but if I heard the theme music I was allowed to come downstairs.

StanSP Posted 12 November 2024 Posted 12 November 2024 Sticking around for FA Cup til 2026 and World Cup coverage in 2026 too.
