Too many of our players are not prem standard, McAteer is never gonna be, Faes a constant liability, Ndidi now a toothless tiger, Justin, Okoli and El Khannous out of their depth. Frankly our only quality player (apart from the goat who is ignored by the other fools) is Hermanson!

They even made Soumare look average, some feat that.

Replacing Cooper is totally pointless when there is nothing approaching quality to select from, but then there is absolutely no prospect of him going except in the minds of a few.

Sad what the useless idiots in charge have done to our club.

I didn't expect us to win, draw, or even lose by just 1. But I did expect us to try. Cooper clearly sent the team out with no ambition to try to score first. We were defeated before we even started. That is inexcusable.

Was impressed with Bilal again. He’s a really neat and tidy player….. definitely played like Maddison! He’s going to be some player in the future!

If he gets enough games he’ll be gone in the summer no matter what league we’re in.

I’ve mentioned it the last couple of games but will again wtf are our set pieces about . Chasing the game and yes yet again we over complicate them are completely pathetic and come to absolutely nothing

Think this can be put down to over coaching / confusion. The "why yes, I'm a set piece coach" cringe has helped us at defending set pieces it seems but not attacking - the players denied Ayew's Southampton goal was worked on, for example.

They need to keep it simple but then why have an employed set piece coach?

We've looked awful defending set plays. So so often we leave a man unmarked. I'm sure stats will back up. that we should have conceded a lot more goals than we have from SPs

The disgraceful scenes when KDH came on. Saw people smiling and clapping all whilst the most clueless performance of their own team was unfolding.

This sort of behaviour is everything that is wrong with our fanbase.

After that shltshow that’s what you choose to complain about - the one thing all night that actually made sense?

PS obviously all JJs fault again :scarf:

2nd goal of theirs azrguably was he went down on the halfway line feigning injury, they carried on and from the right side we conceded again because he was way out of position.  Frankly our whole defence is abysmal FAES is a liability Christiansen and Justin regularly pulled out of position.  Watch Justin all the time he aimlessly wanders into the centre of the pitch leaving their winger or advanced full back in acres of space.

To be honest given the players we had available most fans would probably have taken that scoreline. Could have been even better if we had that first penalty shout on Mavs. I agree with you that the most concerning thing is the set up. Just as in recent games we had players bunched up together instead of closing down players properly out of possession. Even if we were playing the zonal formation then we were executing it poorly again. We are missing some key players but I thought on the whole it could have been worse and we didn’t give up. We possibly could have got a point at the end but they were the better team. I hate to admit that about a Chelsea team. All round we need to find a way to do better as the next month or so is going to be crucial.

You're correct on some this imo, McAteer, Okoli and Bilal have room to improve and look like they have promise, Faes needs moving on and Soumare could be useful in the right set up and is clearly a confidence player. We have 15/16 very average players but with a decent coach could do okay.

If I was to say where our priorities in Jan it's a CB and RB to replace Faes and Justin

For the people who say this squad is nowhere near good enough, just remember the majority of this squad were capable of taking on and performing well within a very technical and structured tactical system, albeit in the championship it actually showed that the group were open to new ideas and have the football intelligence and desire to take on new ideas and improve.

They are now being left to their own devices with very limited technical and tactical input from the equivalent of a supply teacher who has zero respect and his only redeeming feature is too try and be everyone’s best mate to deflect from his shortcomings.

Yes there is still a lot of work to be done to become a squad and team capable of challenge top half of the table but this is nowhere near a squad full of pub players either, there is plenty of quality to work with and a coach worth his salt would get us better organised to be more effective at both ends of the pitch.

I think if you look back at last years FA Cup win against Bournemouth you can see that last years style would have worked for us this year.  Maybe not well enough against the big guns, but against half the division you'd be confident you could get something.  And the great thing about that FA cup game was that we played more second string players than Bournemouth did and they still played the system as it's coached, players like Hamza at RB looked comfortable. Raikhy, Marcal, Praet, Cannon all started.  And we played the same way as we would if it were our best players.

The squad is well capable of staying up.

...

But that's (partially) the point.   Last season we were in the Championship, which I remember people were saying was the worst standard they'd ever seen it.

Well ... it was the worst standard ever, whilst we kept on winning every game.   Once teams worked out our system, it started to falter.   And by the last quarter of the season, we lost more games than we won  (W5 D1 L6 if I remember rightly).   Ah the joys of QPR, Millwall, Plymouth ...

But as Jimjams pointed out, we were good against Bournemouth in the cup last season, even with more second string players than they had on the pitch.

Two points from that - 1 Cooper isn't putting any faith in our youngsters who could probably perform adequately in small spells if managed well (e.g. BCR preferred to Alves yesterday, again), 2 Our squad has enough capability to compete in this division.

The key in each case is the quality of the coach, and in that we are sadly lacking.

Was also getting frustrated with how long we were taking over our own goal kicks when we were losing. No urgency until Mavididi came on.
