A pretty fair and balanced appraisal, IMHO.   (unlike so much that has been posted recently)

He's the best thing on the Merc

How many times… his connection to Forest wasn’t the problem. Games and performances like at Walsall were the problem, and if this is true what a low level of expectation he must have had. Just really odd. We were dogshit for large parts of pretty much all games this season. What do you do when you step in dogshit? You get rid of it.

The Notts Forest connection was always going to be a problem if he didn't start well. Remember what Mad Martin got after the start he made.

That horrific night listening to the Snotties singing his name brought it to a head.

Martin O'Neill and Wes Morgan would make any Leicester fan's shortlist for a statue at the ground.

Nobody gives a shit that Cooper managed Forest.

They do give a shit that he was crap at Forest and even worse here.

If anything, Cooper achieving here what he couldn't at Forest, by building a competent Premier League side, would have given us bragging rights for years.

The archaeologists down the road love being reminded that Wes Morgan had to leave them for us to build a decent career.

****ing hell did we honestly almost sign Ben Davies. Jesus.

I'd have taken the latter. Barely getting a look in for Arsenal!

Any word on who else (if anyone) has gone and who lead training today and would be caretaker manager Saturday if there’s no arrival?

My long range camera picked out this chap who seemed to be running the session :dunno:

Comparing the Forest connection with Martin O'Neill and Wes Morgan, isn't comparing like with like.

Cooper was a Forest reject - sacked because he wasn't good enough for them.

MON and Wes were Forest heroes. That's the difference.

His PL record is basically the same as Steve Kean’s. He’s shit at this level and the media reaction is remarkably lazy as usual.

If he was foreign and less familiar to broadcasters through the U17 WC win and scraping survival with Forest, he’d be rightly criticised for crap coaching and tactical set ups.

I honestly don’t think anybody gave a shit about the Forest connection. It was the abysmal performances, complete absence of tactical identity the lack of any discernible improvement that rubbed people up the wrong way.

I gave a shit but was looking for any reason to confirm my annoyance at the time of his appointment. It only got worse at various times until that night to forget.

I would've got beyond it had he actually been better than useless.

Found it:-

“Coach and Analyst Steve Rands have also left the Club. Steve, Alan and Steve depart with our thanks for their contribution during their time with the Club and with our best wishes for the future.

Men’s First Team training will be overseen by First Team Coach Ben Dawson, supported by coaches Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes”

Just hope they’re better than those P.E. Teachers  wasted games in the relegation season. But surely we have someone lined up anyway?

He's just another Dean Smith or Jesse Marsch, hugely underwhelming and if they'd been in charge and the season has played out the same the fans would still want them out.

Yet I reckon if you offered us Nuno right now we'd take him. It's all bollocks that the connection was the problem.

Totally agree with the Forest comments.

If you do a good job , the rivalry is pretty soon forgotten about.

Crikey,  I'm even old enough to remember the abuse Speedie got after signing,  but he soon won the Leicester fans over , with some great goals and committed performances

that says it all really, it must have been a very few moaning about the forest thing

and i dont get how he is shocked by them chants at Walsall either, we was awful that game, really really bad, if he didnt see that then something is defo wrong with his eye sight

Agree with the comments above. It definitely was an issue that he had such a close connection to Forest fans. But like others have said, this is soon forgotten about if he does well. Id have loved for him to have done well and piss off their fans base. The nightmare scenario was him doing shit and them singing his name.

What I want to know is why he was shocked? Is that another dig at the age old discussion about not realising it's a rivalry? I remember him (probably on instruction from Forest) calling it a "local game" in the build up when he was their manager.

But knowing Cooper as we do, he will blame just about everything else other than himself. So the Forest rivalry will probably be what he uses to bookmark this period of his career not working out.

He made a massive thing about making the forest players re watch the 4-0 game and their fans reactions

Bit weird for a local game
