It depends what you want I guess. He’s got a massive history of treading water in a premier league with relatively big clubs playing pragmatic and a times almost defeatist football (particularly away against the big clubs) that ultimately Everton and eventually Wham fans got sick of. He’s also been relegated from the prem with Sunderland and failed spectacularly at Man U and Real Sociedad. He’s won one trophy in his very lengthy career which is the minor European trophy that was introduced as an inclusivity cup more for countries that have teams that aren’t ever able to qualify for the group stages of The Champions League or Europa League (as they never get through the pre-qualification process for the two bigger competitions.) The involvement of the lower placed bigger euro league teams (from the prem etc) ensures it gets viewing figures.

Moyes is the opposite of a Maresca appointment for me and much closer to an old school Cooper style one. I think a few of our players after experiencing the modern coaching of Maresca will be almost as underwhelmed by the recruitment of an old school disciplinarian in Moyesy as they were by the clueless Cooper. As fans we’ll be as entertained as much as we were during the Claude Puel era.

Agree with this.

Basically, we have put ourselves in a situation (again) where we are scraping the barrel. Sure we’re not in the bottom 3 but anyone who’s watched us now knows we are in a relegation battle. There’s no chance of us being surprise packages.

Moyes would be brought in to do the job of keeping us up but in the long term both he and Potter would be very underwhelming appointments. I say this every season but our manager scouting is sickening.

Yeah most likely. But Ricardo is out for months, so we won't see him till March at the earliest.

Moyes does not play attractive football, but a 4231 that is defensively robust and good on the break probably keeps us up. Moyes has developed players like Bowen and Rice over the years too and improved them.

I think Moyes would improve a number of players in the team actually, simplifiying their jobs and making them strong at core principles. I think he'd improve Kristiansen, Okoli, Justin, Ndidi, maybe even Mavididi, who would probably be our Bowen. He's the type I can see dropping Faes due to his antics. Winks probably won't like him, but as with Rice and even Arteta (as a player) back at Everton, he's managed to get creative players doing OK under him.

But just so everyone is clear, I am not a fan of the turgid stuff he plays. It's boring. But right now if we were a boring midtable team, that would be a massive upgrade on where we are.

Let's not assume Winks won't like him, Moyes went after JWP when Noble left and like you say had the likes of Arteta and Cahill playing for him at Everton. He's direct but not in a Dyche way.

The one thing he won't be doing is carrying on the experiment with Ndidi. In a 4231 it's him and one of Winks & Skipp sitting deep. The only question is whether he'll want Jamie up top or get someone in to hold the ball up.

Think we could have started a domino effect here

If West Ham lose tomorrow I think they get rid of their gaffer

Southampton will follow suit in the next month or so

Really? I though Maresca was pretty good scouting.

How about Moyes with Huth as assistant, with Moyes to move upstairs to DoF in a year or so? Rudkin to concentrate on the horse side of King Power business.

Huth? He couldn't even manage our ****ing loans

I strongly suspect either Moyes or Potter have already agreed to join.

Club probably felt they had to act now and get ahead of the upcoming sackings at other clubs.

Would be surprised if it was RVN at this point.

My bet is Moyes, and club going with the experienced/survival specialist route.

Hope it pays off :fc:

I am sure our fans will give whoever it is a fair go...

Guess he maybe means in terms of our willingness to look abroad or at anyone without prior experience in the league, which I'd agree with. We're perfectly happy to pick up unproven players from relatively weaker leagues but when was the last time we seemed even vaguely likely to appoint a manager who hadn't already coached in this country? It is an inherently risky thing to do obviously but equally it's not as though someone like Cooper or Smith is a surefire success because they've demonstrated they can be at best mediocre here. People are regularly underwhelmed with the names we're linked with and our unrequited infatuation with Potter, understandably so, but that's partly because we make the pool of potential candidates a lot smaller than it needs to be.

Wow forest forum really is going mad. They really do hate us. We are the most toxic club going. Never achieved anything, most deluded fans of all time.
I’m not sure I even dislike them really, now I kind of do.

It’s so funny how they’re so obsessed with us and think they’ve got this massive rivalry with us when the only rivals we’re bothered about are Harborough Town.

A winger (possibly on loan,) a striker and an LB essential in the window.

Back in for Ioannidis again?

our major issue is right side of defense, faes and JJ surely the weakest part of the team. i think Mcteer can do a job there, and buononatte, ayew, bilal, or BDCR can all play roles there, then theres marcel.

i think the priorites are RB, CB and a striker, i'd love to add KDH or a player like him to that list

So you accept that football should be entertaining, but then suggest i go and watch a musical to be entertained? Got to be honest, I’d prefer to watch a good footy match than a musical anyway but each to their own. All I’m saying is Moyes does not entertain. Wham fans were sick of it. One obscure cup in a LONG career of pragmatic football at relatively big clubs isn’t enough. What’s the point of appointing a manager that might keep us up but isn’t a long term solution. Why not recruit a manager that might keep us up but who also might have a longer term project as well?

I said guaranteed entertainment. Guaranteed being the key word. Sometimes football matches are entertaining, sometimes not. For example, not every match Liverpool or Spurs play is entertaining but they can be very entertaining to watch on their day. However, every musical is entertaining. That's what they are there for.  A football match is there to be won first and foremost. If one looks at football in general terms than certainly it should entertain and over a season there will be an amount of entertaining games. Same as cricket, some matches are exciting and some are dull. Problem is entertainment is arguably not the main objective although the current England cricket team are trying toentertain and they have been told that results are not the be all and end all. I guess England cricket dont have the spectre of relegation haunting them so they are, to an extent, free to take a swashbuckling approach. If a football fan goes to every match expecting to be royally entertained I fear they will be regularly disappointed unfortunately. Anyway, I hate musicals! Peace ✌️

I definitely think that sacking our manager first to get a jump on the pick of managers before Southampton/Ipswich etc has certainly played a part here.

I’m pretty sure the club would have already sounded out (via agents) 2/3 top targets to see if they’re interested and what’s their demands.

Moyes and Potter will be the top two in my opinion, with a back up list of the likes of Van Nistelrooy, Corberan.

I’m confident it will be Moyes and he’ll be in the dugout for the West Ham game.

Hopefully they haven’t got rid of their manager by then and Moyes beating his former club is the final straw!!

Get Fuchs in

He could bring his current manager with him, Dean Smith.
