I’m starting to see why they let Cooper have Chelsea.

Would’ve done a new manager no good taking charge for that game, half the squad were on international duty during the break.

RvN can hopefully galvanise the squad to get enough to stay up… it won’t take too many results and he might just get enough.

You're giving them way too much credit for thinking this far in advance and having a plan.

From a formation perspective, this is what he played throughout the 22/23 Eredivisie season.
9251956-B-C137-4657-AB40-E4-D8-DAF8-D037

Hopefully @Bluearmyfox28 or @StriderHiryu can add a bit more insight, but my main takeaways from the personnel he used, I’m guessing…

Mwene or Teze were used as a RB who’d drop into a back three when in possession.
Van Aanholt was used as an attacking LB.

Guus Till was often used as an 8/10.
Bakayoko or El Ghazi were used as the wingers to provide width.
Simons was used as a LW who had the capabilities of drifting in field as a 10.

Overall yes, the concept is right. There was a lot of fluidity in ensuring that passing options were always available. I have looked at a few videos on YouTube today to see if other's seen similar to what I seen, which for the most part appeared similar to my own analysis. I will share the videos below for anyone interested.

FT is always the same. We decide amongst ourselves WHEN something is happening and if it doesn't happy at that time we panic and speculate the worst. It's fcuking spectacularly entertaining lunacy!

But, but, you said we weren’t in the ‘Are we entitled pricks?’ Topic….

We aren't, but that traitor O'Neil thinks we are.

This

They've literally acted because Tops been told we're a shower of shit from Vardy, he's asked Pearson If he agrees and he's said Cooper must have his head in the sand (better all round.)

Then got Rudkin to do his job which probably took a few emails of "Hello Top can't you get Susan to do it?".

Was told this morning it's unlikely this will be announced today. Knowing us it'll rumble on a few days.

Any particular reason?

I did a piece on him in this live stream:

He adjusted his tactics at PSV based on who he had available. To give him credit, he changed his system and was still effective when Gakpo and Madueke were sold. In general he liked to allow Xavi Simmons to drift inside and have van Aanholt join him, but also had games where he inverted a full back into a CDM role. I'm not going to profress to be an expert on RVN, it will be a learning experience for us all, but the more I looked into him, the more excited I got for him. I think he's got a good ideology, but is also routed in reality to avoid being humbled by playing in too expansive a manner.

I will also be doing a live preview of the Brentford game tonight at 19:00 here:

Brilliant as always Strider, thanks for that.

Of course he had Gakpo for the first half of the season, looking at Simons role in that period it often changed between a RW, 8/10 and even a false 9. Don’t expect the likes of Buonanotte or El Khannouss to be used as a false 9, but thoroughly expect them to be used in a way like Simons was in the second half of PSV’s season.

Also thanks for breaking down how Phillipp Max and Cody Gakpo were used in the first half of the season, good to see he is willing to be flexible with his full-backs.

If he goes similar as he did at PSV, it’s going to be interesting to see how he operates Justin and Kristiansen. He might have to flip it around by using the LB as the inverted CB instead of the RB, with the RB bombing forward instead of the LB, then allowing either Buonanotte or El Khannouss to be used as a RW who drifts in as a 10. This would also be beneficial to Mavididi who can operate like Bakayoko did in the second half of PSV’s 22/23 season.
