We rode our luck yes. We rode our luck under Cooper. The difference today was there was a clear plan. There wasn’t under cooper. 
 

He speaks so well Ruud. I really hope he delivers.

For, albeit early days, that game showed cooper up for his do not lose tactics. He was a snail hiding in a shell because he didn't have the confidence to manage a PL team. Weak and lacking in any leadership personality. At least, based on how the better players performed tonight, they seem to have found a belief in themselves and, for me, that's down to respect for the manager.

Real positives from Ruud today were the halftime changes without changing the personnel.  The first half ball to Kasey that was never on, the isolation of JJ, the mid pairing letting West Ham stroll up to our box largely uncontested were quite prominent features of the first half.  Second half he moved some players around and those issues largely disappeared.

 

The way we played it back to Faes in the 97th minute was a bit naive, and obviously Wout got a lot of stick there as we put ourself in danger, but tbh it should never have gone back to him.  Nobody tried to take it to the corner to kill the game, it's been so long since we've gone into the end of the game with a lead to hold onto I think they may have forgotten how to see it out.  So just being a bit cuter, buy a few fouls, take the sting out.  Although obviously not always possible.

 

Real shame Reid was called offside, but some really good performances from players that haven't been fancied.  Vesty and Coady did well, despite having the pace of a pensioner and a corpse, Coadys goalline stop as good as a goal for a defender. Can't remember them playing together much (ever) together before, so that was good to see.  Soumare totally levelled up in the second half, made some good tackles and blocks.

I've never been a big fan of VK, and he looks sluggish and blowing out his arse after 5 minutes, but he's totally nullified their biggest threat in Bowen, set off some good attacks, a really good showing from him.

The Daka press was really good, and to put a finish on it was excellent, especially after being out so long.

 

Lots of positives, lots of things to work on.  If there is a must-win on the horizon, I think it's Wolves and then anything else in December is a bonus given the opposition.  Brighton and Newcastle look less bleak than they would have a week ago though!

I think a really good point of comparison is that even on his best day Cooper wouldn't have gotten anything from that game. 

 

We'd have sat back, played for a draw, and ended up with a loss.

I think a lot of fans are still holding on to pre conceived ideas N’didi and Soumare were fantastic in the 2nd half tonight.

Will admit wasnt expecting Ruud to have us play this way, fair play he did.

 

Also never seen Kristiansen have such a good game for us, some quality balls on counters.  Seems to be a counter type player.

For me, the biggest positive is it hopefully shows Van Nistelrooy can improve our players. Because I think we will be lucky to get 3 starters in January.

The people calling out Soumare for lack of effort/laziness today are just being funnily enough... Lazy with their criticisms.

 

He put in an absolute shift in today. He holds the ball up well under pressure as well rarely just hoofing a ball and hoping for the best, this may result in the odd backwards pass, but I'd rather that than a kick in to nowhere where we end up getting countered on

Ruud mentioned post match how he asked VK to push up and Bilal to tuck in first half. He changed it second half so VK went deeper which allowed him to concentrate on his defending and still attack at times

First and foremost, a massive much needed win. 
 

The effort and hard work already seems to have doubled than what it was under Cooper. We looked like we had a bit of an identity and didn’t just sit back hoping to sneak a victory. Was really happy that even though they had a fair few chances and looked quite dangerous at times we stood up and didn’t buckle under pressure. 
 

As I’m sure it’s been mentioned we rode our luck a lot but sometimes you need that luck to win games, still plenty to work on and improve on.

 

Far too many times in the first half they just absolutely waltzed through us. But that’s something that surely will be worked on. This win will also be huge for confidence. We’ve not been 2-0 up in a game all season and to then go and score a 3rd was just what we needed. 
 

Indivdually, Hermansen pulling off some of his usual great saves, N’Didi looked like 2019 Wilf, Vardy as hungry as ever, El Khanouss with that bit of freedom looking like the player we’ve all seen clips of. Daka when he came on was full of energy, put himself about and scored with a brilliant finish. 
 

No time for any negativity tonight, just enjoy that winning feeling.

Great result - some good bits of play too from us and, most importantly, the players put in a real shift.

 

Coady’s interview was insightful too - “the season starts now” and “we’re a talented group and haven’t shown it this season”.  Too early to say if we’ve got ourselves a manager who can bring out that talent, but it’s looking far more promising than the Cooper era already

As RVN said, when we won the ball we looked right away for the forward runs centre, left and right. No sideways, no backwards nonsense that puts more pressure and leads to nothing. This was the big tactical and mental difference compared to Cooper's consistent panic ball. 

RVN hinted post match other major tactical changes and my understanding is that he will try to make the D more compact. Today we used some diamond structure and plays when going forward. I wouldn't rule out a switch to a proper low block while defending and a Vardy/Daka duo on top with both switching sides and one of them dropping back to make plays with Buonanotte.

Second half he was good but come on, he and Ndidi in the first half were absolutely pants.

Went through the tactics and player ratings here. I was very impressed with RVN, he tried to shore up the fullbacks and started El Khannouss and McAteer for their work rate to do that. It worked! Shows you that a MANAGER and not a PE Teacher would recognise the obvious problems the team had and would try to do something to fix those issues. Changing BEK to the 10, moving McAteer to left wing and Facundo to right wing in the second half was also a master stroke.

 

If Top backs Ruud in the transfer window, I think we stay up.

 

West Ham did have a crazy number of shots, and on another day could have won the game. But our manager had 2 training sessions and already implemented a clear defensive structure and a far more compact 442 rest defence, whilst maintaining a threat on transition throughout the game.
