In my opinion with this regime it’s arguably too far gone. A good January may be enough to stay up, but then what? What other has been or never has been wants a last and generous pay day?

I’m pretty close to declaring we need to start again in League One with competent people in charge.

I’m already of this opinion

We need 3 defenders, 1 mid and 1 attacker at least to give Ruud a chance of keeping us up. There is little to no chance that we can get that many players in that are actually going to be good enough.

If a big bid came in for Mads, I'd consider it if it meant

A. We could reinvest the money and promote Stolarcyk to first choice.

B. We could actually use the money wisely and sign several players that are good enough for this level.

Knowing how poor we are at recruitment, B just isn't realistic, even if there is money available

We've been so badly effected by injuries this season that it's wrecked our chances of surival.

The  problem for the Club is do we spend now or wait until the Summer.

January is not a good time for signing players unless your will to pay extra to get them.

Especially when what we need is quality signings that will improve the team now.

I think we might be best served by going oversees and finding Quality even if they don't have the Prem experience.

Cream will rise to the top even if it takes a little while. Like Bilal and Facundo. That's the way forward for us.

I can't see it makes too much of a difference.  All clubs will be looking to improve, do we have enough £££'s to get the players we need???

Our chance of survival depends on how other clubs fare, rather then what we can do.

As a Premier league club have we ever signed four or five players in a January window?

Must have done. Whether it paid off or not not sure!

I don't think we have.

Last team I can think was Newcastle who spent 100m on 5 players and stayed up!

We need something of that scale.

One thing I would say is that if we're signing from teams that are nowhere in their respective leagues, we might not end up overpaying. Especially if they're from a less attractive league.

For example, Van Ewijk from Coventry would be an interesting signing. He's a decent RB, only 24 and may very well be known to RVN already from their respective time with the Dutch national setup. Coventry aren't coming up, probably not going down and you'd think the player would fancy it.

We need a Huth, Fuchs, Cambiasso, Mahrez and Vardy.

That should do it.

And could we not just borrow Kante for six months?

Hypothetically - it might be a good idea to breach PSR on a gamble of staying in the league.

Though, I suspect the FA/Premier League would have us for arse paper if we did so we've double screwed ourselves with legal chicanery.

And also I think we'd sign a load of ****ing dross. Knowing our recruitment we'd breach PSR on getting Édouard in full time for 50m

£35mil spent on Skipp, Okoli and Ayew is what killed us. Invest that money intelligently and we finish midtable.

There is always value to be had in the market, we signed Mahrez for £400k in January. The main issue is that our transfer department is one of the most incompetent in the league.

I thought we didn't need skip BUT thought 25m wasn't a terrible price. Premier League experience at a decent level.

I'm beginning to think 8m would have been a fair price.

Lindelof on loan would be my #1 target. Contract up in summer, easily a top half prem defender, bags of experience, needs to put himself in the window if he is to get a decent club in summer.
(Edouard out)

Might not be the worst.

We need someone with premier League quality and a bit of grit

Don't think Okoli has had a fair crack. Could turn out decent.

He's made the Italy squad. He's young.

My main observation of him is that he DEFENDS. He doesn't do a lot else that modern defences are called to do. He's a traditional center half.

I think we need that but I'm not sure the passing through the back is going to flatter him.

The big danger, especially with the possibility of a looming embargo, is that we continue our current trend of extremely short-term planning.

We don't have a great track record at it when it comes to desperation transfers under King Power, going back to Sven. Whether you're talking about Bertrand and Vestergard in 2021, Faes and the panicked January signings a year later, or some of our more rushed business this summer, it's very expensive and not very helpful when we go looking for quick fixes.

The combination of a manager who feels he'll be judged on short-term goals, a chairman and DoF who want to stave off criticism, and a fanbase demanding quick improvements is explosive. Especially when our past record suggests a blitz of transfer activity is unlikely to keep us clear of relegation, and more likely to leave us lumbered with another raft of misfits who are too expensive for the second tier, too poor for the first, and neither young nor promising enough for a sell-on.

If, on top of that, we find ourselves in the second tier, selling off expensive players, facing more severe FFP punishments as a result of what we spend, and unable to bring in replacements - having brought in a stack of experience which limits our ability to blood younger talent - we could easily rue having submitted to those who called for drastic short-term fixes.

He's big and strong at least, Something we need badly at the back. I think he will get better when he's settled in properly.

Skipp looks a total waste of 25 million, He just doesn't have enough of anything to make the grade.

I would probably have him in the starting lineup as he's a good strong tackler but he's a bomb scare on the ball, which is not good enough for what we paid.

Our recruitment is so random, I dont have much faith in us coming out of the window with much of an improvement, and if Mads goes there is a fair chance we come out of it weakened.

How many non EPL players have we been linked with? that massive scouting circle we have.
