Is this going to be Lookman 2.0? Don't think he got enough chances while he was here, but would much rather we were bringing him on than McAteer or BDR.

For the reported fee I think he was worth it.  I mean given what we've spent elsewhere and his subsequent performances he was definitely worth it, but I always likened him to a budget Bernardo Silva.  It'd be interesting to know if Enzo dismissed the idea or it was someone else given his opinion didn't really matter anymore.

Going after and getting are two different things.

Remember when Rangers were after peak R9, apparently the contract he was offered allowed him to sit down the odd match against the lower table teams

They could dock Wolves 40 points and I'd still not be convinced we'd stay up

Ipswich are finishing above us, so it would need to be Wolves and Everton probably to fall below us. Think we will finish below all of the above personally. 19th, above Southampton.

Would genuinely take him as our left wing back right now

Hahaha I’m all for running the wrong direction and clearances going absolutely anywhere.

Funny you should mention January 2016. We forget that the failure to recruit a striker didn't backfire as we went on to win the league but it was the first signs of how indecisive we are mid season.

Our failure to strengthen in January 2020 and again in the winter window in 2021 when finely poised to break in to the top 4 again will forever haunt us but it also casts doubts against the view that it's only been in recent years we've made a mess of things.

So you wanted us to spend more in each window, but then criticise the club for having PSR troubles? Can’t have it both ways.

I think people would have probably understood pushing at those points referenced though as I think most would see the risks as worthwhile, we were also still applying the model of selling assets to reinvest at that point.

What wasn't great was binning off the model of selling to reinvest and spunking a fortune

If IF we do end up playing wing backs, who would you rather have in the LWB role, Schlupp, Kristiansen or Thomas? - I’d genuinely rather have Schlupp over those two

Yes in hindsight we should have pushed Tielemans out the door after he won us the FA Cup, but that would have also been an unpopular move and been seen by some as lacking the ambition to stay in the top 4.

It would of gone down fine let's be honest,  we'd been doing it for years.

We'd of already missed out on top 4 twice by the point you've referenced, so we weren't 'staying' anywhere.

What did lack ambition was not spending in the windows referenced when both times we were in a position where the media were saying there's one spot in the top 4 to play for as the top 3 are all so far ahead (including us)

Well ideally I'd like the club to be better at transfers but that aside, the two January's we failed to strengthen when going for the top 4, we had yet to feel the effects of PSR and nor was it a problem for any club back then. Even you, a staunch defender of everything with hindsight must admit it was a missed opportunity that we may never ever get back to.

In fact I know your answer so don't bother.

I think by the end of February we'll be a good 8 points off safety easily.

We should have had enough in the squad to stay in the top 4 without expensive January signings.
We made some great looking signings in the summer of 2021 which looked like they could keep things going for us.
On paper, Daka, Soumare and Lookman looked like young players with great potential. We all know how bad a couple of those have been for us though and the Fofana injury wrecked the season and meant we chucked unnecessary money at Vestergaard.

Cunha to Forest would be major for us….. he literally is keeping Wolves up.

Although I agree.. Ipswich are currently better than us and bolstering their squad so I don't think it'd make any difference atm

Shows how bad we're struggling and how poor we are in this window that the only hope we can cling on to is who our opponents may lose rather than who we are getting

You know what I meant about staying in the top 4. We were in it for virtually two years. Obviously we stuffed it up in the only week that mattered.

Hmmmmmm but we were getting severely hampered by injuries and Rodgers went on record too in the summer of 2019 that we hadn't got all the players he needed, so I'm not so sure that was the expectation. Plus Man Utd strengthened with Bruno Fernandes and the rest is history.

Interesting that, given a sniff of UCL, Forest are looking to bring in a high quality attacking player from Wolves, whilst in the same scenario a few seasons back we swooped in for their 5th choice CB.
