If Bilal moves, I would genuinely be open to loaning Harry Howell from Brighton. He’s only 17 but he is an unreal talent. 

 

He carries the ball like grealish did. Going to be some player for them one day.

Spot on and as it should be. For years now we have strengthened the squad, rather than the starting XI and it has ultimately put us in this mess.

Which is completely understandable and the right approach but also sets the bar very low. Improving the starting XI in this case means buying a striker who's better than Ayew, a left back who's better than Thomas or a midfielder who's better than Skipp or Soumare. If we're unable to do that after making about £50m from sales then I think that's enormously concerning.

That's what did for us under Rogers. We signed players to fill out the squad and ended up with a bloated squad most of whom weren't going to challenge the first team and who's wages no one else would take on. Daka, Soumare, Vestegaard and Bertrand in the summer of 2021 was catastrophic.

I'm sure I played a game of Championship Manager at one point where my challenge was to only sell players and never buy any, just using the academy players, so that the whole squad was homegrown, similar to the Celtic 'Lions of Lisbon' team from 1967.

Makes me laugh that our fans seriously think that we’ve got players coming in 🤣🤣 before Monday when we’ve done nothing in the last few years and everyone thinks it’s going to change.
