Just for the record, a mild mannered man from Leicestershire has just returned to posting after a ban for posting something he should have known not to.

He had no defence and has accepted his sanction, the first ever after 15 years.

He would strongly recommend not posting after a bottle of wine.

His motto now is, "think before you click, you dick".

That writes off this year's Eurovision thread then.

Welcome back with a slightly red cheek.

It's in the Daily Mail so I'm going to assume it's both A bollocks and B shit stirring nonsense to whip up the Reform voting racists into a frenzy, which seems to be their go to

Other than that I have no idea as I'm refusing to open the link

Sorry

it came up on x - didn’t realise it was a mail article which does lead me to question its veracity

Basically saying that the CGT take is down by 1.5bn this year compared to last since Rachel’s changes

will wait to see it appear on the bbc or a more serious ‘newspaper’

Ah it happens to the best of us, as well as the rest of us.  Mark is pretty even handed imo, but we all get a bit silly sometimes.

Actually my assessment of the Dhejne report is accurate as it is literally quoting the lead author: https://www.transadvocate.com/fact-check-study-shows-transition-makes-trans-people-suicidal_n_15483.htm

"The individual in the image who is making claims about trans criminality, specifically rape likelihood, is misrepresenting the study findings. The study as a whole covers the period between 1973 and 2003. If one divides the cohort into two groups, 1973 to 1988 and 1989 to 2003, one observes that for the latter group (1989 – 2003), differences in mortality, suicide attempts, and crime disappear. This means that for the 1989 to 2003 group, we did not find a male pattern of criminality"

I've already touched on that sexual offences stat, but to reiterate, it is completely misleading. a sexual offence is anything under the sex offences act 2003, which yes includes rape and sexual assault, but also contains solicitation. trans women are drastically overrepresented in sex work and there's a perfectly reasonable conclusion to draw that that leads to overrepresentation in solicitation charges. There is no data I'm aware of that further breaks down those sexual offences convictions into the type of crime convicted for

Your quote from Dhejne (from 2015) is indeed correct, but it is one that has been misinterpreted. In it, Dhejne is accurately stating that in the 1989-2003 period, the transitioned group as a whole (ie, irrespective of the direction of transition) had no statistically significant difference from the population as a whole for general criminal convictions. This was in contrast to the earlier period, when the transitioned group’s conviction rates were slightly higher than the population as a whole.

Dhejne’s statement is therefore only true in the sense that patterns of criminality were not examined separately by sex for each period, meaning that no such finding could be made. However, if you refer back to the study itself (which I’m sure you’ve read), you’ll be aware that one of its clear findings was that over the whole period, male-to-female cases had a pattern of conviction insignificantly different from that for the male population, and significantly higher than that of the female population.

It's also worth noting that the quote from Dhejne that I used previously, where she appeared to clarify the situation: "Regarding criminality there are only results from either both trans women and trans men and displayed for the whole period 1973-2003 and for the periods of 1973-1988 and the 1989-2003. If one is only interested in transwomen data is only available for the whole period." This quote is from 2017 – two years after her interview comment that you cite above.

As you note, there is not a great deal of data in this area. More would be certainly welcome. But as things stand, we can safely state there is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that a man who says he identifies as a woman can be safely assumed to be less of a risk than other men. So if we are to retain sex segregation in prisons and other settings, the choice is either: 1) to apply it to all people born male irrespective of how they identify; or 2) allow males who identify as women to opt out. Of these two choices, I think the first one is a much simpler and more effective way to manage risk. A safeguarding policy that allows certain people to simply opt out at their own behest doesn't strike me as particularly robust.

It is worth remembering that trans people are still protected from discrimination by the Gender Recognition Act 2004. However, what the Supreme Court ruling clarifies is that the era in which men could self-identify their way into women's spaces, irrespective of whether or not they were welcome there, is almost certainly over. This is a positive development. The task now is to find new ways to ensure that transgender people are protected from discrimination and harassment in a way that does not deny women their right to biological female-only spaces.

Election day here in Canada. Will it be Carney and the liberals or Poilievre and the conservatives?

Poll indicate the liberals likely to win but a lot of people are tired of the liberals on general.

I did advanced voting on the 19th with the missus. Let's see how it goes.

I hope that it's Carney, but then both he and Poilievre seem to be on similar wavelengths regarding the most important issue (the pond life in charge immediately to the south) so there's that.

Huge power cut across Spain. I’m not going to put my usual conspiracy hat on as I’m not an expert, could they take down a whole country’s power or is it more likely a network issue.

Apparently the cause has not yet been identified, and we've just heard it could take hours to restore. BBQ it is tonight then :D

If there’s a time/place for such thing to happen, spring in Spain must be most preferable. I just hope it’s not too hot.

I have just seen a credible update that it’s a technical malfunction. Pretty alarming that a technical malfunction can take down the whole power grid

Being reported as a rare atmospheric phenomena.

Maybe a solar flare or something along those lines? I’m not sure how targeted something like that could be, as in I thought a geomagnetic storm would be much more widespread.

It reads like it’s a little more localised and a geomagnetic storm would be obvious ahead of time. I asked ai and it indicates some kind of localised temperature change that sent the grid into meltdown.

Police looking for suspects including a bespectacled man in a Hawaiian shirt, Sean Bean and a skinny man in his 50s to early 60s dressed in a green military hat, last seen escaping in a battered old Lada being chased through Barcelona by Pierce Brosnan in a stolen tank.

You always have a few ball sucker's but real Canadians will not be down for this.

I will give my life to defend my country if i have too. We don't want to be American, we will never cave. The only way this will ever happen is if trump invades Canada by force and overwhelms us.

Trump can fuk himself. He has no legal basis for an invasion of Canada.

Americans go on about election interference and yet here we are.

Cvnt.
