The messages detail how:

  • A junior analyst sent to observe Oxford United train before their December fixture with Southampton sent a message to colleagues saying, "I didn't really have an option and wasn't provided an opportunity to say no. I was an intern and was doing what I was told."
  • When he sent details from that session back to his boss, he received a WhatsApp reading, "You legend. Manager loved it."
  • Upon being asked to carry out a second spying mission on Ipswich he expressed concern but was told, "the boss is adamant that someone needs to go".
  • That upon being caught, another analyst at the club sent a message to his colleague saying: "I said all along I was never happy about it all & it wasn't right but no one listened to me!"

I'm looking for the document now. Only BBC seem to be reporting it at the moment.

Yeah Plymouth too, good shout. They have pretty much Cornwall and Devon available to them until you get into the north of Devon and close to Exeter. The main club in Cornwall is what, Truro? And Devon wise after Plymouth and Exeter, Torquay?

Bet the ‘big 5’ have a right following down there though

There must be reasons why these clubs have never grown beyond their potential. I think the chance has been and gone.

Yeah I know a Boro fan and had had that account from him regarding what happened with the analyst changing cloths and deleting his linkedin profile.

Still amazes me some people thought they were hard done by, and this is Foxestalk I doubt anything will make them change their minds as that seldom happens but that evidence shows they got exactly what they deserved in my eyes.

The stupidity within the Southampton club is shocking. They were sending kids to "spy" like a 1920s movie. Its just bizarre. Why they didn't send a drone instead? The whole thing sounds like the perfect sequel of Dumb and Dumber.

With this Southampton people and the club Rudkin and Co are doing business! I don't know if I should laugh or cry.

What’s worse. If they had someone walk the other side of the Boro training ground on the footpath into the wooded area, they firstly wouldn’t of been seen and would also have a better view of the 1st team pitch..

Yeah, thanks for posting.

If people don’t think an unfair advantage has been gained from that they know jack shit about competitive football tbh.

Interesting. Just seen the statement out from Southampton, they are targeting a few points.

- They didn’t pressure junior staff into spying on teams.
- The penalty was over the top for the crime

- Two individuals on the independent panel had links to Middlesbrough, with one being a former player and one representing the club legally.

They’ve got to realise that of all the teams to **** about with, Middlesbrough are one of the worst. Just look at the way Gibson went after Derby, he’s bloody ruthless.

err.. have you read the WhatsApp group messages sent internally on the Southampton’s side? Junior staff were totally pressured

and the penalty was not over the top, they just didn’t like it. Besides, this is a precedent- they broke a new, watertight rule. How can they say it was over the top? What do they have to judge it by?

Southampton owner Dragan Solak says he will not sack Tonda Eckert, despite the "mistake" the head coach made when authorising a spying campaign against rival Championship clubs.

"I think he deserves a second chance and I would give it to him," the Serb businessman told BBC Sport in an exclusive interview.

"My full support would be behind him actually, because I think he's a super-talented manager."

--------

Wow. Even the people with the tiniest bit of sympathy for them getting booted from the playoffs will struggle to maintain that now.

I think the ex player they are referring to was someone who played one game on loan at Boro in in 4-0 defeat away to Tranmere in the 90s so not sure that is an argument really .

they still think the punishment is unfair......christ

talk about head in the sand

easily the most disliked club in the country,

I'm sick to death of this "it's the fans and players who suffer the most!" bullshit... Whilst of course it is true, it doesn't excuse a club rule breaking. In this case they've stupidly cheated, and now hide behind that statement that the fans are suffering as some sort of armour to try and deflect punishment and criticism. Of course the fans are suffering, but that's on the club itself and nobody else, not the EFL or the Independent commission. The fans should direct any anger solely at Southampton FC.

Hope they finish mid - low table.

"His form during 2026 has been remarkable". Hmm I wonder why???

This video has convinced me that Top and Dragan are the same person in disguises. Either that or they both went to the same school rated by OFSTED as requiring 'Urgent Improvement'.

They need to pack in this "disproportionate punishment" rhetoric.

They had the result of one game overturned and will start next season on -4 points. That is it. They're only crying because they decided to cheat to gain an advantage to get  place in the biggest game of the Championship season. It's their fault.

Frankly I think their punishment is lenient. They should have a bigger points deduction for next season. 4 points for every game they cheated on which would be a -12. Not enough to condemn them to relegation but it would make automatic promotion almost impossible.

The worst thing is that they would still have had to beat Hull whom they all seem to think would have been a certainty (maybe it would if they had access to Hull's training plans too).

If you look at it through objective lenses, this is exactly it.

How can one possibly argue they should have had 'a chance to get promoted' when they were literally caught cheating ahead of the game that put them in that position?

It's so deluded and embarrassing from Southampton.

The way the owner then defends his manager and takes a stab at the junior analysts for not speaking up is just disgusting. He can do one.

Pretty funny all this coming out when the FA slaps a ban on Eckert managing next season.

I really hope they do. And while I suspect nothing will come it, hopefully the fact that the club in under investigation means Solak's conduct is also looked at too.

Solak once faced charges of attempted murder against a former Serbian president. Certainly he’s a crook, be it a very rich one.
