I don’t buy that that Middlesbrough team is average. Player and potential wise, they should’ve been top 6 regulars in the time he was there. Maybe with better players he could push a team into promotion contention but he’s no McKenna for example.

Carrick is free to start, has a decent record and his staff are all available. We could be accidentally ending up with a class manager. I rate him as does my mate who is a lifelong Boro fan.

I’d take him on a two year deal, see if he can bring us some stability, then if he is still with us after two years, reassess and potentially get in someone younger.

Dyche's success in the Championship was in a different era. A generation of brighter. more tactically-savvy managers have emerged and Dyche's brand of football has become obsolete. Not only would the football be execrable under him, it wouldn't be successful either.

In fairness to Carrick, he did his time as an assistant and didn’t jump straight in. I don’t think he’s the right fit for us but he’s probably got a good management career ahead even if he has to take a lower end Championship gig or L1.

 

Lampard also is showing now as Cov than his good jobs have outweighed any bad.

He literally kept everton in the premier league with one of the biggest point deductions the premier league has dished out.

 

However I guess a gamble on an unknown manager without any experience or dealing with a PSR breach would be the best for Leicester.

It's strange that those decent to outstanding players who have been successful managers are all non English. It makes you wonder is it an intelligence thing?
