Struggling to see how £7m into £16m (which will be plus add ons) isn't a good deal for someone who was involved in an horrific PL season (full of his own mistakes too....) and has had more injuries than some keepers get in their entire career.... good point. Yes he was exceptional in the Championship (I remember that save at Stoke away!) but in the Premier League and after his injury he wasn't stand out 1

Hopefully the keepers we have can improve so we don't have to shell out again or make do with an inadequate keeper if we get back to the Prem. Not one bit of me thought for one second Mads would be anywhere near our team this season. I still don't buy the length of the last injury either, the only reason he played Sunday will be because West Ham asked us to play him.
AjcW Posted 7 August 2025 Posted 7 August 2025 This isn't me saying he wont realise his full potential, especially given he's linking up with his ex GK coach which seems to be a real thing these days (Verbruggen bringing in that fella we had...)

Tuna Posted 7 August 2025 Posted 7 August 2025 You'd think we'd get a cheap third choice keeper if he leaves with Jakub as no.1. Not really convinced by Jakub though.
kingpowerout Posted 7 August 2025 Posted 7 August 2025 maybe we try to bring in a young Premier League GK on loan as our No1? Seems to have been the blueprint for promoted teams for the last few seasons (Burnley, Southampton etc) Not sure who is available though Or we just let Jakub role with it (I think it's too early to say he's not good enough)
moore_94 Posted 7 August 2025 Posted 7 August 2025 He was still actually injured wasn’t he? He never fully got over the injury which is why he needed the surgery I thought he was very good last season up until that point, so it wasn’t like his form fell off a cliff if he was playing whilst injured 2
LCFCCKEANO Posted 7 August 2025 Posted 7 August 2025 We are so bad at transfers these days, £20m or less is just tragic. Would rather we just kept him and did what we can with Wilf/JJ/Coady money until we get a worthwhile offer, undoing one of the two actually decent signings of the past 3/4 years 1

I'd be happy with Jakub in goal, and using the money on a couple of people to score the goals.

He did not look out of his depth when he played last season and there is a massive gap in quality between the prem and the champ so there’s no reason to think he can’t excel in the champ. 1
goose2010 Posted 7 August 2025 Posted 7 August 2025 bringing a new keeper in should be the bottom of our list! 1. Stolarczyk 2. Begovic 3. Bausor More than enough for the Championship. If we miss out on promotion and Stolaczyk has a good season there is a chance of making pure profit on him next summer. 4
Groby_Blue Posted 7 August 2025 Posted 7 August 2025 So if it is £16mil, with the Coady and Wilf money, that's around £26mil we've raised so far with possibly others going out. Wage bill down, nice profit overall and now funds for Marti to bring in a couple of his own players. It's not bad you know - with the caveat that we may well have sold Mads for less than his value. 4

Mads is book value is around 4mill so 12 profit Coady is was about neutral so no profit N'didi pure profit So we have roughly 21mill profit (and obviously minus the wages saved) With that in mind i would say we wont spend anything more that 5m absolute max It might mean that we keep Bilal tough..... but obviously all of the above is relying on the transfer fees being what we are told. Not really convinced by Jakub though. He needs to stay on his toes with Faes and JV in front of him always pissing about and passing back to put the keeper under pressure. He isn't great at kicking out, I don't know why the insist of punting the ball to short wingers to try and control so close to the touch line. He needs to pass the ball out the back with confidence, not dither and avoid Soumare, who will just send it back no matter what.

It isn't, but Mad's value is determined by what others would be prepared to pay. It seems that West Ham are the only club prepared to offer and therefore they have determined his current value. Of course it might have been different if others had been prepared to offer....
Guest Posted 7 August 2025 Posted 7 August 2025 Didn't expect him to stay but still a shame if he leaves. I think he's outstanding and a cut above Stolarczyk who I'm happy enough to see step up but, like others, not yet entirely convinced by.
Popular Post Tommy Fresh Posted 7 August 2025 Popular Post Posted 7 August 2025 18 million is a great deal for West Ham 8

Philkeavo Posted 7 August 2025 Posted 7 August 2025 (edited) £18m feels undervalued. Good luck Mads and thanks 🙏 https://www.skysports.com/football/live-blog/31771/12476234/transfer-centre-live-football-transfer-news-updates-and-rumours?postid=9989742#liveblog-body Edited 7 August 2025 by Philkeavo 1
GrobyLCFC31 Posted 7 August 2025 Posted 7 August 2025 So he was played for 90 minutes on Sunday then so they could see he was match fit… Good luck Mads! 18m is a steal!

If we hadn't got relegated and weren't run by cretins who have ****ed us with PSR, we definitely could have gotten 30+ for him 3
