Monga starting rather than Dowman today for England Under 19s

Any chance we lose players to U17 World Cup?

It doesn’t seem like previous U17 groups where it was full of superstars, they’ve all skipped a group or two, the U19’s are really the “traditional” U17’s now. Wouldn’t be surprised if Dowman and Monga feature for Carsley before the end of the season too.

Just goes to show how the emergence of 3 or 4 genuine wonderkids has changed things. I was reading today Dowman had to be officially registered for the champions league because UEFA never considered a 15 year old would be good enough to be registered so not included as “b list” youngsters lol

De Lisle is currently in the U17 squad and he’s only just appeared for us at that level so I imagine the U17’s will be quite experimental this year.

Page could miss month of action

Louis Page is away with England’s Under-18s at the moment, playing in a three-match tournament in Spain that will see the City midfielder face peers from Uzbekistan, Morocco and Canada.

The camp will count as preparation for the Under-17 World Cup, which is being played in Qatar in November.

It is England’s current Under-18s that will represent the nation in the Middle East, with qualification secured earlier this year when they were still the Under-17s.

England’s first game at the 48-team tournament is on November 4, with the final on November 27. Assuming there will be a brief training period before the group fly out to Qatar, that could mean Page misses a month of football for City.

That’s assuming City grant Page permission to play. Not many of the players in the England group are current senior first-team players.

But with Aaron Ramsey and Jordan James signed, and with a striker coming in to allow Jordan Ayew to play deeper, City should have enough coverage to allow Page to represent his country.

Monga gets England promotion

Jeremy Monga would be eligible to play at the Under-17 World Cup too, but he’s so far not been in that group.

In fact, Monga jumped up two age brackets this international break. Initially called up to the Under-17s, injuries saw him switch to the Under-19s, the winger going on to start in a 2-0 win over Ukraine on Wednesday.

City midfielder Hugo de Lisle was called up to the Under-17s in his place. With Darren Motsi in the Under-16s, Page in the Under-18s and Ben Nelson with the Under-21s, City had a player in nearly all of the England age brackets.

Go on the lads!

There is an International break in November but he could still miss up to 5 games if he's selected and we allow him to play. I suppose it will depend on how much he's playing for us and whether he'd rather be playing for us or them. I'd say he gets more experience and development playing in our team than in England's u17s but he may not want to miss out on the u17 wc and now we've signed Ramsey, James and Carranza he might not play as much

Does this mean that Evans and page will probably go?

No his scholarship deal run until 2027 Summer but clearly he wants something extra to sign a pro deal

New deal for Brandon Cover

Finally, Jamaica international midfielder Brandon Cover, 21, has now signed his second professional contract with us. The Academy graduate, who is from Wigston and been with us since Under-9s level, has gained some valuable experience on loan with Port Vale and Fleetwood Town in recent seasons and made his First Team debut against Birmingham City in the FA Cup last year.

I do wonder if he'd benefit more playing consistent championship minutes than an u18 tournament

Reckon he’d prefer to have a chance of winning an international tournament with England

Possibly, but presumably we're hoping that by that point the likes of JJ and Ramsey will have got ahead of Page in that position. He was getting minutes because Bilal was off and possibly Winks as well, but now he's got proper competition in front of him for that position he'll drop to the bench at most. Not at all a slight on him - think he's performed decently - but a gradual introduction to the senior squad will do him good. The same way we're not starting Monga every week, for instance.

These lads are still 16/17 after all. Let them enjoy their football as much as possible whilst they develop a more rounded game. Tournament football for Page sounds like an excellent opportunity to test himself.

Wonder what the plan is for Cover. Mixed success on loan but he's clearly talented. I don't see him getting any minutes here as Aluko is ahead of him.
