Essentially I think the last bit is it.

The very wealthy oil billionaires are happy to f the world by paying for media underhandedness and political stagnation.

But ordinary people allowing themselves to fall for the narrative that it's uneconomic, unachievable, or even not required, do so willingly.

It's blindly obvious that the climate is changing. We all know it snows less than when we were kids. We all know summer temperatures are far higher. We all know the seasons seem messed up. We all know there's less dead insects on cars than 30 years ago. So there's no sensible reason why anybody would believe a non scientist over a scientist.

Countries across Europe and the world are operating with much high levels of renewables than the UK. There are countries operating with next to zero fossil fuels. So it's clearly very possible. Yeah we still get nonsense about needing a practical plan as if it's some unachievable thing, as if sticking some relatively cheap and easy in install solar panels and wind farms up it's somehow more difficult than exploring and extracting fossil fuels from miles under a sea. As if Britain has loads of days when the sun doesn't rise (because it doesn't need to be sunny) or the wind doesn't blow off the coast of Scotland or wherever.

It's disingenuous, unambitious nonsense by people that don't want to slightest change in how they live. Predictably led by the older generations. Well the reality they need to be awake to is that things are changing. Climatically. They're changing rapidly and if it isn't anyway too late even the elderly will see extreme results within their lifetimes.

I would agree with most of this.

However, I'm of an older demographic and I am concerned about the climate. I'll likely be dead before any real change is noticeable but I have grandchildren and it's about them more than it is about me.

Please don't tar the older generation with the same brush. We're not all simple minded Daily Mail readers.

Trump mentions that we will help out with minesweepers in the gulf

but we have no vessels within 2 weeks of there.

we actually withdrew a ship in January.

What's the diplomatic wording for "fvck off, your arrogance, bombast, incompetence, assumption you can push people round and abuse of power are all sickening" again?

He concedes defeat…clearly didn’t go full Trump then.

I must say I'm surprised. Must the be the degree of the loss that means he can't put up any pretense of being "stolen".

Whilst  Orban has gone, there still appears to be a few issues for old Blighty, The Times ( who endorsed Labour in 2024) has  a poll today with reform on 24% and Labour on 19 leading up to the elections in May. That’s enough to give Labour a solid hit round the head. It could be their opportunity to get rid of Starmer who doesn’t appear to be very popular of course.

i really don’t know what to say…I get there’s often a swing in the locals two years after a general election, but that was such a commanding landslide that losing heavy ground to Reform could be a huge  problem, not just locally.

Starmer has to go if they do… they have GOT to think about the generals already..

it appears that Anti-Russian  sentiment runs deeper than we realized in even a close geographical traditional ally

Could well be part of the picture but if it was all of it, then I think Orban would have been out in his ear before now.

At least it's happened, looking forward to the meltdown on "Truth" Social soon.

Always good to have anyone who is called a great guy by Trump outsted. Wonder if he was hoping Putin or DT would help him win the election. If the exit poll is right and its over 66%, when the polls pre JD Vance's visit was 57, thats hillarious.

Vance appears to be pure political botulinium right now.

Anyone who actually cares about the future loves to see it.

I think the Ukraine war started like a month before the last Hungarian parliamentary election… I don’t think there’s  any spin anyone other than Putin himself can come up with to say it’s been a success or at least has been beneficial for Hungary.

i belief their economy is struggling and inflation is going crazy and all since the start of the Ukraine war..

Certainly a part of it then.

Hopefully more to follow in the midterms in the US.

Filled the tank up just in case. 1.85 a litre for diesel is insane.

Filling up my car at home now costs 20% less than last month, but I'm not feeling smug, honestly😗

I know it's not all of you para, think I alluded to that later. But unfortunately it is the rest of the older generation keeping climate denialism as tenable election strategy.

Is there any credible evidence for this view?

I am very old but have always believed in the science on this issue, as do almost all of my similarly-aged friends.

There have been plenty of polling data showing that boomers vote reform in higher numbers than other generations, however even the majority of them believe in the science, but in my experience most have no wish to be inconvenienced by anything government would like to mitigate against it.

Every election and every single poll showing older voters are voting for the parties that support oil drilling and argue against net zero - Tories and reform. You can't seriously be pretending you don't know that.
