Oh, so climate change and its effects really are an important issue?

That's interesting, I seem to remember being told by multiple people on here that it wasn't the case.

Funny, that.

The sheer amount of fires is changing the narrative. Either it is a result of climate change, people's behaviour or both. You can't blame it on woke or whatever, it cannot be brushed off, the images are stark.

And some folk get the hump if suggested not to have a bbq. Some people find it impossible to modify their behaviour

You would think that, but there appears to be quite a few who will surely try.

Yet still every article you see on social media about it has tonnes of people putting laughing emojis and commenting ‘it’s called summer’, ‘1976’, ‘it’s a money making scheme’ etc etc.

Whilst vasts amounts of the county and worlds populations are so thick and/or in denial and unwilling to even accept any of this is an issue, we will get nowhere.

Hopefully a lot of them are bots so it appears worse than it actually is (polling gives a similar split to the poll we have here on the matter), but yes, as has been said before, having such a scientific matter of importance that is almost entirely subject to every part of the democratic "talking shop" shows a critical weakness of that system.

A lot of people upset about getting an emergency alert due to the risk of wildfires. I don’t think people realise just how catastrophic wildfires actually can be. A rude awakening will happen over the next few years I fear.

Jason Arday found dead.

Media have blood on their hands for the way he was bullied and humiliated. He did wrong, but his treatment was massively disproportionate.

Sad, but I don't think anyone else who did what he did, would be treated any differently.

We are supposed to accept that if someone believes to be something they clearly aren't, we're supposed to accept that, instead of getting medical help for them, which clearly Arday required.

So if anything he was a victim of "progressive" thinking that really needs to be rethought.

I'm all for progressive ideals, but that shouldn't mean you can't challenge an idea that people have labelled progressive.

Different people have different motivations for going after him, some genuinely feel let down by Cambridge, some have agenda’s around EDI (as it was known in Britain until the American moral panic kicked in), for some he was an easy target because he’d clearly done wrong and it was a chance to prove that black people shouldn’t be in these positions.

Regardless, nobody comes out of this well and anybody crowing about it or policies should be ignored. It’s caused a wife and children to lose their husband and father, and sadly that’s more important.

No offence mate but I genuinely have no idea what you mean here?!

My point is that the media witch-hunt was disgusting and he should have been given some space and privacy as he was clearly not a well man. The fact he wasn't treated any differently to anyone else in the same situation is my point entirely; the levels of bullying from the UK media in these situations shouldn't be tolerated. IMHO it's disgusting.

He was full of shit, but I don’t ever recall a media/press campaign over basically lying about your CV even close to what he went through.

He was wrong, Cambridge were wrong and the coverage was wrong and it’s ended in tragedy.

Exactly. Well said.

To further illustrate your point, I wonder how many people have heard of Courtney Gartshore and how many articles they've read about her?

Sentenced today for killing her baby with a hair dryer and yet it's barely had a mention in the media and yet there's tonnes written about Jason Arday. Why is that?

Still not entirely sure what the whole story was as I didn’t read into it but he didn’t deserve that

2nd this.

I kept seeing his face and it popping up on news apps but didn't read any of it and the whole time I was thinking, why is this getting so much coverage... Surely not a scandal worthy of deep dives into his past and the such. Media will be deleting articles like crazy now.

Basically how I felt. Saw wall to wall coverage but never clicked on it or read it other than the headlines

He fabricated stories of very serious abuse against him. I wouldn't say he was hounded more than many other people in the public eye who are caught lying or behaving unethically. Clearly not a well man.

There’s a lot to it, but basically there were elements of right wing journalists using him as an example  of someone black in a role they weren’t qualified for. There’s certainly a lot of questions to ask of the university as to why they didn’t do more stringent checks. They do more stringent plagiarism checks on students, it seems.

However it has particularly got a lot of the media’s back up because he then hired an expensive law firm that slapped a legal threat not to report on it against them. But then a right wing blogger (who also has history with the university) reported it anyway/may have not got the legal letter the national press did. After that they all printed it.

In short, it seems a depressing shit show all round.

He wasn’t in the public eye until the scandal became a scandal though! Then people leapt onto it because of their own agenda’s.

Seems he lied about disabilities he had as a child as well, he was clearly a mythomaniac.
ii’s a tragic end but he chose it, just like he chose to deceive. The people that put him in that lofty position without proper scrutiny should be where the anger is directed in my opinion.
