Ah, the "concerned citizens".

Not sure about the veracity of the source there, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was some substance to it - all of the big players have records of messing around with biological agents in spite of the international treaties restricting their use.

Read a report that I shouldn’t be particularly concerned

I don't think that people should be either - if there is an outbreak, it's already isolated and if it is plague, then the existing strains are pretty difficult to transmit.

Brazilian election goes to a runoff, but it seems likely that Bolsanaro Jr. will win.

Not entirely sure what made a large chunk of people think that the son of a man doing time for a legislative coup attempt would make a just leader, but there you go.

Same type of people that voted for Trump a 2nd time and those that think Farage is a good choice after all of his and Reform's bulllshit

So all the USAF B-1Bombers have gone from Fairford. Is this really for non-political reasons and should we be concerned? I think we should, especially as it comes just days after Britain was excluded from talks about NATO's future.

Depends on whether a person finds that more concerning or the idea of the UK being involved in much military cooperation with the US under the current administration and their...questionable stance on geopolitics?

There was a thwarted terrorist attack, they clearly don’t feel that they’re safe there and it was used as a base to attack Iran. I wouldn’t look for hidden conspiracies. If they leave Lakenheath then panic.

just read, the notam for them being there has expired, simple reason.

I read the same, them leaving on schedule has been misreported in the press.

Yes, apparently so.

Bolsonaro has said he wants to "free the Brazilian people". Trump has explicitly used the language of 'liberation' and freeing ordinary Americans. Brexit was sold by the Leave campaign as an act of national emancipation and Reform continues to talk in such terms.

Promising 'freedom' is a remarkably powerful rhetorical device. If you persuade enough people they are somehow constrained or imprisoned by the status quo & tell them you'll liberate them from it, many will support you without troubling themselves much further about what this 'freedom' actually means in reality. It's an emotional appeal rather than a political argument, but unfortunately it often works.

Exactly.

And that lack of forethought by those people can, does, and will result in highly negative consequences that are felt by everybody.

We've seen a taste of those already.

Burnham is ‘philosophically’ the best prime minister we’ve had in my life time. The only one that actually presents a vision rather than managing the existing neoliberal system. I hope he carries it through.

Darn it!! I was ready to go full conspiracy theory on this.............. US insist on Europe releasing it's diesel reserves.... then removes it's airforce, leaving the door wide open for Russia to invade further west and European military unable to react as well as normal due to low fuel supplies.....

and then SOMEONE gives a perfectly reasonable explanation for the planes leaving.....

absolute Pish.

I think the official line is that it was spread from a chap eating a pangolin purchased at a wet market that is located next to a sophisticated biolab that specialises in studying this type of pathogen.
