no growth in July then :)

It would be nice if we paid as much attention to things that directly affected the lives of ordinary people: public services worked, people had enough money to buy a house, holiday or a treat occasionally, people generally felt happy and not ground down through worries about money or the state of the nation etc.

Growth is great and all, but we don't often see the proceeds of it being used to actually improve anything for anybody. These days a high % of any increase to GDP effectively goes straight to shareholders. And much of the growth we've seen in recent years has simply been inflation led.

And yes you can say pension schemes etc are some of those shareholders, but jam tomorrow really is getting old by now.

I'd rather see a fundamental change in our economic system with zero growth, to more fairly distribute the proceeds of that system between labour and capital.

So the FBI have released footage of the apparent gunman running along the roof wearing a small backpack. Jumping off, hurting his leg and entering a wooded area were they found the rifle, right?

The problem with that is, he clearly didnt have the gun in that video. His backpack was too small and he couldn't have had it down his leg because we see him bending it when he's running so.... how did they find it in the woods?

Im not one for conspiracy theories but the math ain't mathing.

Video is too pixelated to see whether he was or wasn't carrying it, could it of been folded away?

Not sure the FBI would lie about finding it in the woods. The longer it goes on the more embarrassing it is for the FBI.

Just looks to me like someone was on the wrong roof at the wrong time

In the footage I’ve seen it does look like there is something sticking out of the backpack partially covered with a towel or an item of clothing.

It's hard to know what is fact and what is not but apparently the rifle recovered was a Mauser .30-06 which doesn't have a folding stock and disassembling it would have taken time.

I still say that if I were the FBI I would be asking folk who do you know who is a big enough nob to try and write on a bullet

unfortunately, that wouldn’t narrow the field down very much!

Realistically the guy is long gone. Could be easily south of the border by now.

im sure he’s gone into hiding, but I’m sure someone somewhere is going to report that a young adult is missing. They know who it is. I’m 109% of it, they’ll just need to find him.. and I don’t think it’s possible to cross the border as his name will already be flagged and he’d get stopped at the border.

It's a big old country to get across when your face is plastered everywhere

"Face" is a bit of a stretch, it's a blurry CCTV image where he's wearing a hat and sunglasses. He could walk past you in the street and you wouldn't bat an eyelid.

It took how long, over 24 hours to release those images? You can cover more than enough distance to get to the border in a car in that time froom Salt Lake City, and that's not accounting for him having assistance.

There's video of him which is very clear

So straight to the conspiracy theories is it?

Sad to see a few days ago we were preaching how sad it was, how we should respect the dead no matter what we thought of them or their views, and now we're speculating on conspiracy regarding said persons untimely demise. Very sad to see imho

Not a conspiracy theory at all - but it's much easier to travel by private than commercial if you are a criminal and have some $$$. Thought you'd get that.

I think the point being made was why would you throw that into the discussion unless it had come from somewhere when typically these acts are not career criminals with boatloads of money.

I think it reads suggestively even though that wasn't your intention.

The gunman is nowhere to be seen 48 hours later, the most wanted man in America - it's not a wild theory, it's very plausible.

If people get offended by that then I don't really know what to say

The shooter will be caught, probably within the next few days. Manhunts on this scale almost never end with the suspect evading the police. And when they’re caught the conspiracy theories tend to melt away very quickly as the truth is invariably more banal than the scenarios dreamed up by amateur sleuths on social media.

I actually think that if they do find him the inevitable gun standoff will occur, resulting in him being shot dead. Thus potentially more conspiracies created rather than any clarifications.

Wouldn't be surprised if this guy isn't named or caught by Saturday. Anything is possible but justice must always prevail. Lock him up!

Trump has just told the press he has been caught.
