But, if you aren't being deliberately very hyperbolic, this is just silly in the absolute extreme.

Yeah probably I was just trying to say I don't watch porn without saying I don't watch porn.

Confucius say, man who must tell internet he doesn't watch porn, definitely pay for @Dr The Singh OnlyFans.

It's shocking.

Seems surreal..

Although trust in the Police, in general, seems at an all-time low.

I can’t keep up with the amount of scandals, attached to so many police forces up and down the country.  I would imagine they have lost the trust of many women for sure.

Tsunami warnings across pretty much all of the northern Pacific after an 8.8 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Russia.

This post is missing some kind of doom warning at the end.

... and that's because the people in charge appear to have the matter as well in hand as could be expected and hopefully there won't be much loss of life and property.

The same, sadly, cant be said of a lot of other matters. :D

Let’s hope it’s not a repeat of 2004 and everyone can get to safety .

Thankfully, it seems like the areas the quake was closest to are reasonably uninhabited and the warning systems we have today worked well enough to give people further away time to prepare.

(8.8 is joint 6th on the all time list of strongest recorded earthquakes, if anyone wants to know. The 2004 quake is 3rd in that list and was around four times as strong as this one.)

One of the reasons that particular event was so devastating was the lack of adequate warning systems in place across many coastal regions impacted in the Indian Ocean.

Last night's earthquake occurred on the Kamchatka Peninsula which is on the Pacific ring of fire and subduction zones are prone to these immensely powerful megathrust earthquakes which can generate tsunamis. There are so many variables that can govern the severity of the latter ranging from the the amount of water displaced, the depth of the water at the source, and the local morphology/topography and bathymetry of the coastlines that are hit so it remains to be seen. A 1.2m wave has been reported off the coast of Oahu, Hawaii.

The LM site have shared a warning about this. Now, as a news story it's very relevant but they've worded it as though we all need to get up Old John. I'm no expert but I think Leicestershire will be OK.

Ah, the high standards of LM journalism.

The porn age verification is a step in the right direction in my opinion, but I don't think it will be as effective as they hope.

After being asked to have the birds and bees talk with my niece and nephews, aged between 12-15. What they see as "Normal" sex is not what we'd have considered normal a few years back. I for one would like my kids to grow up and learn about sex through having sex and not seeing porn stars doing all the rough stuff.

My 12 Nephew said about, choking, hair pulling and slapping. When my daughter gets to that age, I'd hate to think that her first experience became what he described.

We have to do something to protect the children from what is out there.

This sort of raises a few questions and points, for me.

The first being why did it fall to you to talk to them and not their parents? Based on my experience 15 is far, far too late to be having any kind of talk. As someone who was sexually active from 13 (along with most people I knew), this kind of thing needs to start at the back end of primary school.

Even little things like calling it "the birds and the bees" talk is subtle code to kids/ society that sex is somehow different and needs colourful language. When we talk to kids about drugs, self harm and other issues, we don't really use euphemisms like that. So why do we feel the need to do it for sex?

Just some thoughts. I'm personally against the implementation that they've put in place and would always put education first. Smoking rates were cut through years of education.

The parents didn't feel that the kids would appreciate them speaking to them. I have always been close to the kids and it started as joke to be fair, Uncle Brown will tell you all you need to know. So I did.

I didn't call it the birds and the bees to them 🤣, just saying what we all called it as adults. As I said they knew all about it, but what they knew was all wrong. I agree education should teach them all this. But unfortunately I can't see the education sector picking this up and preventing kids from learning from porn. No 12 year old should think it's acceptable to slap and choke his sexual partner. If, and I know this won't happen, they were to use watered down porn to show what is right and wrong then yes, education could work. But as long as porn is freely available on every smart device going, education will not stop kids copying what they see.

I'm sure they've read the article and seen the photo of the officer named. Probably hasn't posted because he's running away again.

A very fair and reasoned statement. One of the main issues the education sector has is that it seemingly can't satisfy everyone. Kids can be pulled out of sex education and when certain topics ARE covered, parents get up in arms. There needs to be a national, sensible discussion as to what people need to know.

It's not just porn available on every device, though. It's also websites like watchpeopledie and ebaumsworld. The issue is less that kids can find this stuff and more that it can just appear in their DMs. I have never seen some of the more salacious stuff knocking about - beheading videos, animals being kicked to death, etc. That's because when I was growing up, you couldn't just send it in the same way. Now, you can embed a gif of a beheading into a DM and off it goes.

Porn is kind of the misnomer here. It's peer to peer comms. The other, very useful, solution would be a cultural shift away from giving kids smartphones. That CAN be done but it needs the will of parents.

I agree completely, my two kids don't have phones and I'm putting it off for as long as possible.

Parents shouldn't be given the option to take kids out of any education. I saw a documentary on channel 4 where a Dutch (I think) sex ed teacher came and taught a group of teens in the UK about it. Was interesting to see the difference in what their kids were being taught. But even during that some parents came and took the kids out.

My arguement was purely aimed at the age verification change this week for porn.

Talking about everything they can and do see, is a totally different issue.
