nothing wrong with Miquel. She did a passable job in a team ravaged by injury. If the goalshy behaviour continues with players back then fine but I don't get going for Beard. Man seems like a ***** as well

Leicester City Women have sacked their manager Amandine Miquel a week and a half before the Women’s Super League begins, the Guardian understands.

The Frenchwoman had been in charge for one season after being appointed in July 2024 and oversaw a 10th-placed finish last term, steering Leicester safely clear of relegation. The 41-year-old previously spent seven years in charge of the French club Reims and signed a three-year contract with Leicester.

The Leicester squad were informed of the news on Wednesday evening, according to multiple sources. Leicester will begin their WSL campaign with a trip to Manchester United on 7 September.

Miquel oversaw victories in five of her 22 WSL matches, drawing a further five games, and delivered a two-point increase on Leicester’s 18-point tally from the previous campaign, securing their joint-highest finish.

The news comes 41 days after Leicester appointed a new director of women’s and girls’ football, Lee Billiard. Billiard previously spent four years in a similar role at Aston Villa.

Leicester will be seeking their fifth permanent manager since December 2021 after Jonathan Morgan, Lydia Bedford, Willie Kirk and Miquel. It is the WSL’s fourth managerial change of the summer, after Tottenham appointed Martin Ho to replace Robert Vilahamn, Manchester City appointed Andrée Jeglertz to replace Gareth Taylor and Liverpool appointed Taylor.

Half of the WSL clubs have changed their manager during the past 12 months, with Arsenal and Aston Villa also making changes.

They better have a replacement already confirmed behind this otherwise this could be another disaster.

FWIW, they do.

Matt Beard has apparently been placed on 3 month gardening leave by Burnley

Probably gonna have to pay to get him

Really quite ridiculous that we have sacked Miquel so close to the start of the season though unless something has gone on behind the scenes

Can't imagine that happening here...

Matt Beard and Lee Billard  are mates

Ah, well there we go.

Its a shame and I do think its very unfair on Miquel.

As I mentioned earlier, Beard is a great manager and from what I hear is also very well liked by players.

Baring all that in mind, there is more potential there for us to move up and improve, but for me, Miquel just didnt have a fair crack at it and so it feels sour.

Fans were invited to a meet and greet with Miquel and players only two weeks ago. Billiard, the new DoF, is big mates with Beard, a man of such integrity he's prepared to dump his brand new club first chance something better comes along. Leicester Women's football is now going to be run by two blokes who are old mates. Nepotism is alive and well.

I feel tremendously sorry for Miquel, who had us playing much better by the end of her first season, especially since most of it was stricken by injuries to all the forwards. She, the players and the fans deserve better than this shabby treatment.

I remember Beard losing it completely when we beat his Liverpool team at King Power; after spending the first 60 minutes screaming at his players, he retired to the bench in a huff and showed no further interest in his team. Burnley have got away with one there.

It seems like even the women's team is about to go through a similar process of utter managerial incompetence to the men's team. This club is becoming a complete joke. It's a pity I have already renewed my season ticket again.
