Some of the responses to this news on this thread have been absolutely wild, the one above yours being another belter.

I can see the tinfoil hats from here. Must be the way the sun reflects off them.

On the general topic, the principle seems sound but as other people have said, let's see how it works in practice.

It is a bit rich the Uniparty Blob Government demanding that "clubs have a long term sustainable financial future" when the country is hurtling towards an IMF bail out and societal collapse.

Reckless politicians calling for tests to stop reckless owners?  How ironic.

New standards on fan engagement? Has anyone had to deal with the HMRC lately, Jesus wept.

How about fair financial disruption for UK citizens and not dumping money abroad before talking about fair financial distribution between leagues.

Protection for key club heritage? Apply the same protection to British culture first, oh wait sorry that's waycist.

Shambles Government. Pissweasels. Get rid.

Maybe you should take your pish political views to another part of the forum.

Why do I feel this won't end well for us fans?

My reading of the legislation is that it won't make a huge difference for clubs at our level, but is quite significant for lower league clubs. It was designed in the aftermath of Bury and Macclesfield going under, and Wigan almost going bust. It's really about providing greater oversight of ownership so clubs aren't asset stripped in the way Bury were.

I really hope.it works, because surely no football fan wants to see a club being dragged under by owners local and foreign who have their own interests at heart rather than club and fans, but govt regulation rarely ends well, it will be all in the finer details I guess

Worth mentioning there was evidence that Boris Johnson frustrated this process of putting this into law bevause he was being lobbied by Saudi Arabia over Newcastle United and they wanted it delayed until the purchase was secured

They did say that but apparently it was diluted enough by the PM to meet Uefa’s needs

I guess that is where the “Independent ” part comes in but will the big wigs see it like that ?

The idea is to help clubs and fans are all levels but obviously the Premier league will get most attention and probably try to stop most things that mlght affect them negatively.

Not sure if this is a good start either ?

Yes, they are excellent, I have lived in 3 countries are HMRC are by far the best authority. They tend to fob off idiots who have no idea how to organise their affairs which is probably why most of Twitter hates them.

Dunno about the football regulator, automatic response would be 'toothless tiger' but let's see.

Reckon that poster is a banned former member..

Look at his fairly-recent joining date and posting style in General Chat posts.

Almost the same experience as you and I can confirm HMRC is miles better than the equivalent authorities of some other countries in Europe. Ofc HMRC has its own organizational issues mainly because the recruitment in public sector is lacking quality but they are definitely less bureaucratic and more citizen friendly than other European countries.

A national embarrassment because some dickheads decided to ruin it for the rest of us?

Small minority ruining it for the majority yet again but hey you've already set your agenda for it.
