Had an out of body experience to set JV up for his 200th goal though I must admit. Will never be the same player pre injury as he is mentally scared to get forward nowadays, only ever passes backwards. His bad positioning adds to Faes's failings.

Popular Post Paninistickers Posted 2 August 2025 Popular Post Posted 2 August 2025 I'd be delighted for him. He needs a new challenge. He had that purple patch where he was a top tier PL defender. The injury cost him that level of football. He's had to battle with every manager who's been here to prove worthy of a starting xi place (Cooper and the Dutchman apart. Mainly as they had no option), never went hiding, never shirked, got stick from the crowd, never let his head go. He's one of the good guys 29
TommyK Posted 2 August 2025 Posted 2 August 2025 Everton would make a lot of sense. They need a right back too.
coolhandfox Posted 2 August 2025 Posted 2 August 2025 I’d sell for 6m, only around 700k left on his amortisation, so virtually pure profit. Bring in a young upcoming fullback on half the wages. personally think he’s been poor for the last 3 season, wasn’t even that great in our last championship season. 1
JimJams Posted 2 August 2025 Posted 2 August 2025 Would do miles better for Everton where he'll be tasked with defending and occasionally helping out the attack under a manager who won't try to complicate things rather be the all action do everything fullback that Cooper and Ruud obviously wanted him to be. And £6mill is peanuts for a prem side, they'd be happy enough if he just played cover at that price. 1
Mickyblueeyes Posted 2 August 2025 Posted 2 August 2025 If we can get £6m for him, absolutely do it. A year left on the contract. I think he also needs a fresh start. Horrible season for him last year. 2

Benji Posted 2 August 2025 Posted 2 August 2025 Glad to see he’s still seen as one of the good guys as I’ve always had a soft spot for him. Plagued by injuries but never any trouble and never seemed to lack effort. An offer of a few million though you have to take it. Would be sad to see him go.

Would he even have any book value left? The original transfer fee will have been spread over 4-5 years? You can't spread over more than that anymore.

I think the value that would have been left on his contract when they sign a new contract then gets spread out across the length of his new contract Signed for £8m on a 5 year deal in 2019 = £1.6m per year Would've had about £3.2m left on his book value when he signed his new 4 year contract so it then becomes £0.8m per year 1 year left on his contract so should have around £0.8m left Edited 2 August 2025 by moore_94 1

But suppose it may have been when he last signed a new deal.
OntarioFox Posted 2 August 2025 Posted 2 August 2025 One of the few culprits from last season I don't really have any ill feeling towards. He was just constantly found out due to the way we played, and teams very quickly learned to target his side. That's not to dismiss the fact that behind maybe Faes and Soumare he did more to doom us to relegation than any other individual last season through his continued shite performances. But he was clearly getting no help from anyone around him. The worst in a long line of bad things Cooper and Ruud did was to keep putting him in when he was clearly struggling and his confidence was in tatters. There was a point where a ball down our right side was a guaranteed goal, it was getting that bad. He's been part of some great times too, and I thought he was turning a corner form his injury last time out in the Championship, so there's still a player in there if not one at the heights of his pre-injury self, when he had a genuine claim to make the England squad. I hope he goes, we get some cash for him, and he's able to rebuild some sort of respectable career. His stock's never been lower, but the right manager could benefit him after the clowns we've had this past year. I'd hope many LCFC fans would wish him well if he leaves. 2

You can't spread over more than that anymore. I have a spreadsheet with everyones amortisation on . Only thing I'm not sure about is agent fee, if the club paid a agents as part of the deal that can be amortised as well, so that can add a bit. "Club services agent fees incurred by the acquiring club are capitalised alongside the cost of the player registration, presented as an intangible asset. These costs incurred constitute directly attributable costs of acquiring the asset. The total costs are generally amortised over the life of the asset which is the length of the player’s contract" So it's hard to know the exact amount. Edited 2 August 2025 by coolhandfox 1
Bluearmyfox28 Posted 2 August 2025 Posted 2 August 2025 Very good professional, but an easy sale and tidy profit. Aluko reminds me of a younger JJ in many ways and is already an in house replacement for JJ. Sell. 1

I watched him have to run the entire line by himself most games because we rarely played 2 wingers, leaving him out of position to defend properly. If he had to do what Danny Simpson did rather than be expected to be Hakimi or prime Danny Alves I think he might fare a bit better. 1

MrsJohnMurphy Posted 2 August 2025 Posted 2 August 2025 Everton would be a great move for him, I reckon Moyes would be the type of boss to get him back near to his best, most of his issues are in his head after his injuries 1
