It was Nelson that was the cause of the injury tbh. I thought he fouled the Genoa player. Went in a bit too hard and was a fraction late, missed the ball with his lead leg and twisted his knee. 😔

He’ll sign a new contract even if it’s just a year to honour the situation we were all in. Didn’t someone else that was here do that too or am I imagining it?

I think Ethan Fitzhugh also did his knee.

 

The timings of them all have been horrendous too. If you were to ask us what price those players would have cost at the time you're looking at a good combined £200m I reckon.

Worst part about this is only one of these injuries came on the pitch for a Leicester City first team league game.

2. Braybrooke - League cup game against Newport County.

3. Ricardo - League game against Villa.

4. Justin - FA Cup game against Brighton.

5. Fofana - Pre-season friendly.

6. Fatawu - International friendly for Ghana.

7. Souttar - Injured on loan against Burnley for Sheffield Utd.

8. Nelson - Pre-season friendly.

Said it so many times but someone seriously needs to investigate the playing surfaces in world football, grass needs to be grass again. Not this BS that teams play on now. 

 

NFL and football players are having potential career ending injuries because of it.

Remember when the news of a knee injury came out after the Ghana match with the rumour that is was Ayew. Remember thinking thank f**k it wasnt Fatawu.

No one is going to offer him a contract before his deal expires as they’ll need to see he’s recovered

 

i doubt we’d want to commit to a new deal now either (not the one we’d put on the table anyway) 

maybe we’ll offer a 2 year extension on 5k/week with auto increases if he is available for first team selection.

Braybrooke’s was a weird one as well as he basically just fell over the ball

We sold Fofana for 70m after his horrendous leg break and Fatawu for 20m after his ACL.

I guess this is the risk for a player running his contract down. A club can’t force a new one unless it’s written in to the contract. The benefits of running the contract to zero for an in demand footballer are financial for the player and the agent with them getting a proportion of the money that would’ve otherwise been used up in a fee as well as being free to choose their destination. The risk is a catastrophic injury like this one. Now there’s uncertainty and it might pay Nelson to sign a year extension to get himself closer to the value he would’ve had before the ACL.

That was my thinking too but there's also the possibility a lot of clubs will still see appeal in signing him on a free in a year. Clubs bigger than us too. 

 

For Ben himself though, this has massively shortened his options. He had the choice of a (likely) massive offer from us, even bigger offers elsewhere in a year because he had chance to get some of what teams would have paid in a fee. Now his options are much more limited.

We did well to have Chelsea's pants down with Fofana but he was playing to a top-end Premier League standard as a teenager. It's no wonder they were keen.

 

But every other player went for a price less than that of which they were valued at at the time of injury.

Nelson was looking likely to go on a free. I might be wrong but he doesn't strike me as a deal teams do late in the window. I feel like he'd have gone couple of months ago if he was going to go in this window. Was much more likely to have teams say they'd have him at the end of the season. 

 

This might mean we get him for a few years now. Not that I'd wish this injury on anyone. Be a big effort to come back from.
