I've noticed that if he feels he can't beat his man he will drive inside purposefully and create space. He won't just do a Mavididi and just lay it back. So refreshing to see. Youngsters are doing us proud. Keep it up.

You’re proudly admitting you slagged off a young academy player that was deliberately severely injured. Spending the following years working his way back and learning his way out on loan.

Let’s be honest here, he’s had a very good start to the season a long way to go yet…. I was just being honest over the years he hasn’t been good enough and I know he’s young and had a few bad injuries maybe this is his level and that’s fine it’s where we currently are. If we’re in the championship he’s sent out on loan this season. I really hope he continues his good form.

 He’s no different to any of other LCFC player past and present regardless if he’s an academy player came through or one we’ve purchased from another club. He’s been on the fringes of the squad for years. Injuries aside, he is still only 21 years old. 
 

Like Braybrooke, Page, Justin, Alunko etc, I don’t think they’d all get a chance, if we stay in the Championship. I’ve said for years, our academy prospects get massively overhyped. They need time and they won’t all turn out to be top level players.
 

However, we are now at a level that we should be loaning these players to at this age, so Martin needs to manage how much inexperience he can have on the pitch at any given time.
 

This season will finally be his breakout year though with us. It’s great to see him fit and finally playing consecutive games in a Leicester shirt.

I’m not sure you have helped yourself with the description of slagging off. I can’t say I’m familiar with your posts on the subject of Alves but if you have mean questioned if he’d make it here or whether he would be as good as some people though, they would probably be fair views. In the case of the latter, it might still be, although he does seem to have made his breakthrough here now.

 

Slagging off sounds like a term to describe more personal criticism or even abuse which would be unreasonable, and not what I expect you were doing anyway.

Whilst its been forced on us, all some of these lads need was a manager to believe in them.

 

It's easy to forget a 19 year old Alves's loan at Cardiff in the Championship where he had 4 goal contributions in 707 minutes, a ratio of 1 every 1.96 games, which was better than Fatawu's ratio last season (1 every 2.75)

 

He was set back by a poor loan at Huddersfield.

Used to show A LOT of trickery but it got coached out of him a bit, which was probably for the best in hindsight. Was half the reason everyone was so excited about him when he was younger.

I think half the time a good loan move is about going to a coaching setup that allows you to thrive.

@Sankey93 he was assaulted and it's a miracle he still has a career. End of discussion.

 

Watching him go full Goretzka during his recovery was the key to where he is now, he got strong, realised what he was lacking and now he looks the part.

Fingers crossed he has a long and successful career with us!

 

I'd like to think he'll stay with us for a while because he's not at the 'generational' level of page where big prem teams will be after him, and I don't think a sneaky January offer from whoever is in the top 6 in the champ would be tempting to him just yet.

Let's just enjoy him while he is here. No point speculating what his ceiling is as none of us can properly gauge that until he is tested at higher levels.

 

All I know is that performances like his on Tuesday make watching Leicester enjoyable again which is all that matters really.

I hope his goal is the catalyst for his confidence to soar, that he starts taking a few more shots and putting up good numbers in this division.

 

His balance and skill are something else at this level. If he puts it all together he can be a real force in League One and then look at progressing and doing the same in the Championship.

I'll be interested if he starts tomorrow.  His legs were gone after about 65mins but he had done plenty of running. Looks like our best option on the wing.  With all the young wingers I feel like Martin will have to constantly rotate to build their 90min fitness and keep them fresh.
