Going back to last summer when we were crying out for a number 10, the numbers Stengs produced in the 23/24 season in terms of creativity made him a viable option. 
 

Despite being prone to injuries, in terms of a positional sense, signing him would make perfect sense as we’ve sold McAteer and BEK could well leave too. Stengs is capable of filling both those gaps. 
 

He’d come with risk, throughout his career he has blown very hot and cold, but as seen two season’s ago, he is capable of producing some impressive numbers.

Id love to have a team of talented youngsters, but there’s a healthy balance to be struck with more experienced heads if you can .

It just screams to me we've still not learnt anything. Not the sort of signing that sets the tone for a big shift in wage structure.

This is a very Brendan Rodgers signing. "Broken player", 26 year old that was considered to have potential, is going cheap because hasn't delivered on it. The injuries help being the fee down. 

 

High wages, little chance of selling for profit.

Don't get me wrong, his ability to play as a creative attacking central midfielder is difficult to do. A loan with an option to buy would be a coup but it's evidence we still don't have a clue how to rebuild a young and exciting team on the cheap.

 

Our scouting and recruitment needs a massive overhaul.

We need to sit down and look at Brighton. And work out how to adapt what they do to fit to us. We’ve got to get a better scouting network….. and I’m hoping Marti will want to push something like this. 
 

I can accept a few experienced heads, if it’s clear we’re focusing on generating a conveyor belt of young talent be it from over seas or through our own academy.

With the injury record I'd be avoiding paying good money but a loan view to permanent, Fatawu type would suit me - though he's out of contract in a year by the looks of it.

 

Seems to be pretty good when he's actually fit.

You'll probably be able to get a good price as Feyenoord are in desperate need to get a few players off their books, they have something like 30+ first team players at the moment.

Problem is, Tony Bloom is behind pushing moneyball at Brighton, just having a wider/better scouting network probably doesn't help adopting that model. You'd need all staff behind the scenes comfortable and buying in to it, you'd also need the higher ups to be willing not to change what the strategy is with every new manager and actually hire people to fit the model.

Leicester in talks to sign Dutch winger

Latest from Sky Sports News' Anthony Joseph and Rob Dorsett:

 

Leicester City are in talks to sign Feyenoord winger Calvin Stengs.

 

It’s understood Feyenoord are open to selling The Netherlands international in this window.

 

Celtic and Pisa have also explored the conditions of a deal.

 

The Scottish champions enquired earlier this month and are more likely to follow-up their interest if they make it through to the Champions League.

 

Stengs, 26, has two years left on his Feyenoord contract. He joined from Nice in 2023 for £5.3m.

I like this. He's a genuine roaming, creative & attacking outlet that we will absolutely require if or when El-Khannouss leaves.

 

He has clever & imaginative movement on & off the ball, has a bit of pace. So he should be able to press & move down the pitch with the ball. Can take decent left footed set pieces. Doesn't offer much defensively, so on that alone, I wouldn't play him on the wing, especially when you consider that most threats in this division come from wide spaces.

 

Many people on this thread are worried about how he will adapt to the league in terms of physicality. I would argue that would be counterbalanced by the fact that players like him can find more space in leagues like this. After all many players from the Eredivisie have shone in the Championship in recent years. Like Hamer & Summerville.

 

He had one major injury in his youth, & had an injury disrupted campaign last season. I would argue if it wasn't for that, the player wouldn't be available to us. Other than that his injury record isn't that bad.

 

I've not seen any evidence to suggest that he will be particularly expensive. I don't see personal terms being an issue. The Eredivisie doesn't pay well in terms of salaries (even the bigger clubs), & Feyenoord want to sell, so I can't see him going for £5-6m on 25-30k. Maybe even less.

 

I'm all for looking at cheap options in lower ranked leagues, but that's not risk free either. I really wanted Gronbaek from Bodo/Glimt a season or two ago. But he's stunk the place out at Rennes & Southampton since. But this player good age at 26. He has proven quality at European level & caps for Holland. There is every evidence he could shine at Championship level.

This.  

 

Lurching from manager to manager without having a clear plan or philosophy of our playing style, over reliance on managers asks when bringing players in.  

 

These two things are as damaging, if not more damaging, than our scouting.  It leads to disastrous windows under managers like Cooper.  As a double whammy it leaves you with players who don't fit a new managers system as well as old players who are demotivated after being poorly used under the last manager.

I don't think a transfer fee would be an issue if the club is allowed to spend. But I think from a brief search he is one of Feyenoord highest paid players and if I were in his shoes I wouldn't want to take a pay cut or a short contract to move countries. Loan would be OK.
