Is that how it works. I though you actually had to account for the book loss based on the transfer fee?

If he leaves next summer on a free, it'll cost us 1 year book value plus 1 year wages. If we sell him now for £1, it'll cost us 1 year book value but we recoup  £1 and a year of wages. It's a smaller loss if we sell him for less than book value now or a bigger loss at the end of the season; both outcomes are in the same accounting/PSR period.

Akinbiyi scored 13 goals in 67 games and inflation adjusted (by transfers, not real terms) costed about £15m.

Daka has 23 goals and 15 assists in 63 starts (126 total - mostly sub appearances) and cost about £23m. It's not like he's ever been unprofessional or been totally shit from the outset, it's not worked and his career here has tailed off after a total loss of confidence. Most of it has been the club's doing tbh.

Some time ago I did a comparison of the inflation adjusted finances involved in both deals and goals per game ratio and so on, and concluded Daka was worse. At least Akinbiyi got into good positions and fluffed his lines, but Daka doesn’t even do that really.

He’s now at the point where more often than not he doesn’t even look like a footballer. He’s far too slight and looks like a gust of wind would knock him over. His smiley face and positive body language got him an extended stay of execution, but the outlay we’ve spent on him is just embarrassing and symbolises our downfall.

You absolutely did not under any circumstances because I'm pretty sure you were having that argument with me and Daka's output was vastly, vastly better.

Daka has been an overwhelming disappointment and an objectively failed transfer. I'm not arguing otherwise.

But the idea he's been worse than Akinbiyi is absurd hyberbole.

Inject me with absurd hyberbole in that case! It’s a valid comparison imo. If Daka is better than Akinbiyi then it’s by the width of a wafer thin hair from Steve Agnew’s bald bonce.

He was £23m, significant but not a particularly noteworthy fee in the context of the modern PL. We didn't spend more than Akinbiyi's fee until we bought Mills or potentially even Ulloa.

Akinbiyi ended up playing for Colwyn Bay!

Like fck are we giving him a contract extension 🤣

hence no loan. A loan would require an extension. So he leaves on a permanent today or on a free next summer

Have heard from my contact at Seagrave @KaspersFriendlyGhost that Daka is of interest to Brentford, so better pull your finger out Celtic / Betis if you're reading.

£8m will do, if you DM me I'll put you in touch with big Jon but he's gone out for a late lunch and Jim is manning the phones at the minute so please be patient.

I’d say his point is valid, Akinbiyi had pace, strength and movement that led to his inability to finish being highlighted. Daka never looks like getting into a goalscoring position in a lot of his games. Add to this that Daka has had a season in the Championship as well as a lot of European games against lesser sides and you have a close run thing.

Why wouldn't it be a loan because he's in his last year?

For me one of our worst ever signings in my life time. He’s on a par with Akinbiyi, if not worse.

Nothing beats Benkovic as worse signings go. Whilst Daka has been poor he has contributed. Benkovic was £15m for absolutely nothing.

Have celtic ever paid £10mil for a player. We won't get what we want from them.

11 or 12 they paid for Engels, I'm sure.

Hes an awful player and has had his chances and failed every time, hes on 75k a week, not just robbing the club but robbing the sport, get him gone for anything we can get. Paying out 75k a week and letting him go for nothing makes no sense and i prey we are not going to offer him a new contract

For a dominant Scottish team which practically walk to the title every season, this is stupidly cheap (in our terms). Even Rangers have paid slightly more for Tore André Flo from Chelsea back in 2000.

Shows that you don't need to spend much on the north side of the border to actually win something.

afaik you can't loan players with <12 months left on their contract. this is what happened with Eduoard last summer, palace had to extend his contract to loan him to us

Didn't we loan out Perez when he had 6 months left?

Yeah, that isn't true.
