I'd give it a 7 out of 10.

Midfield is strengthened and a much-needed striker is signed which means less of Ayew in that lone forward role.

 

Keeping the likes of Fatawu, Monga, Page, Mavididi is probably just as important as whoever we bought/sold.

 

Perhaps still more to come but overall it's not too bad. Shame we haven't been able to sell other deadwood but it's very much a good start with who we have shipped out this summer, and with all the income received...

We've got rid of some dross, and expensive dross at that. Brilliant.

Not signed anyone permanently (Begovic doesn't really count) and the 2 loans are somewhat gambles.

 

I'm feeling cautiously positive right now but in the cold light of day, it's a 5 for me.

Bit I’d rather get a cpl of loans with options to buy - rather than outlay silly money on a player that turns out to be rubbish - shows there are some lessons learnt here. 
 

last time we had a loan with options to buy was Fatawu, turned out just ok.

Most of the remaining "deadwood" at the club are positively contributing to the season so far. 

 

But I am not only pleasantly surprised with the amount of players that have gone out the door, but the amount we received from them as well.

I am 99% sure that we have cut a deal to not spend any money this summer to make the EFL business plan/points deduction thing to go away. The structure of all these deals is just too much of a coincidence otherwise.

 

If that is indeed the case, I think it's very decent given the constraints.

I’d say 6.5.

 

One more signing in the 6/8 role would make it 7.5

 

Another striker and offloading Daka would make it 8.5

 

We still have Faes, Soumare and the likes of Bobby and VK.

7’s and 8’s is from the days of getting Maddison or Tielemans etc..

Positives - Got in players in the positions we desperately needed

 

Negatives - Faes and Winks still here. No Scandinavian signings

I am a bit concerned by our striker options. 

 

Daka, Ayew and Carranza. 

 

We already know that Daka and Ayew are very limited players. 

 

That puts a lot of pressure on Carranza. I was hoping for more in this window. 

 

Something will need to click with Carranza here OR we will somehow have to get goals out of Daka and Ayew...

We made food strides to remove the bad eggs. 

 

Weve kept the core of a good squad together and added the right kind of profile on minimal risk deals.

 

We just really need Carranza to hit the ground running. Its been the biggest gap all season and I think James is a very good signing at this level, was very impressed with him in the games against Birmingham.

 

All in all weve given ourselves a shot at promotion
