Looking at the squad, I personally think the only position we'll need to fill come January is a number 10.

Ramsey has obviously been bought in to fill that void, with Page as back up, but as we free spaces in our 25man squad, I'd love to see us pick up a free agent right now for that spot.

I want us to. The thing I was most looking forward to this season was Nelson at the heart of the defence. But clearly he is not fancied, our fans would seemingly rather see Vestergaard and Faes play.

What reason does he have to sign a new contract? Would you if you were him? And on that basis, we either piss around keeping him on the bench until his contract runs out or make some money from him.

I agree with your post being the ideal and I agree. But from his point of view, when most of the fans don’t seemingly even want you to be given a chance, it’s time to move on and be loved elsewhere. It’s what I’d do if I was him. And if I was his agent I’d be refusing to sign a new deal. Fan of the club or not.

Totally agree... They wouldnt let him go on loan and won't play him... If the don't sell (I heard the was a good offer for him) he won't sign a contract and he'll leave on a free and if he goes abroad the compo will be around 0.5 mil

Germany is most like English football so maybe there. To go to Strasbourg Chelsea would be the final destination and I don't think he'll go there

We need to stop letting players walk for free, especially those we aren’t using. He is still young and well thought of enough (and English) that we can make a decent amount from him hopefully.

I'd love to see how you would solve this issue of out of contract players walking for free.

I'll await your answer.

Actually try to sell them before they get to the point where they are out of contract….

You do realise how complex that is now with PSR. You also need a club to want them. A club that can at least match the stupid wages we pay. Then does the play want to go to that club. Or wait for his loyalty bonus at the end of his contract. Oh and then his signi g on fee and his higher wages he will get as his new club won't have to pay for him.

You’re being completely pedantic and you know it.

We’ve had so many leave for free that would have been possible to move on even with the points you raise (which I don’t disagree with them as points). You only have to see the business we did this summer, JJ, Ndidi, Coady particularly to see it is possible when the club put their minds to it. Those 3 were all on large wages as well as the other factors yet we made the moves happen which was much improved.

I’m not saying it’s easy in every case. But how often have we said that others clubs would manage to shift their dead wood and we can’t.

Anyway, the original point was about Nelson so things like high wages and covering amortisation etc won’t apply. A young, English player will have interest so my point was, rather than leave him rotting on the bench until he walks for free, actively at least try and profit from him.

It's not pedantic. All three wanted out for various reasons. You can't force anyone out that don't want to go. Youri refused contracts and didn't want to go arsenal as he knew he would get more on a free. Qe had agreed a fee with arsenal and he didn't want it.

I find it interesting that our exits dried up soon after we announced we were comlliant with PSR after selling James Justin.

It's just a hunch but I think we are far more capable of selling players over the last few years than we have shown, it's just the club are hoarders and are scared to move players on.

That's the only way I can see the lack of sales making sense, for example refusing £5mil for Iversen then losing him on a free.

I never said you can force them to go. I agree with your points in terms of the barriers, such as the stupidly high wages we have given, or when we need to cover the amortised fees for players we have overpaid for and you mentioned some others.

However, we have had years where we only seem to have sold for big money or players have walked for free. Whilst other clubs have made bits here and there from deadwood. You then have to ask was that totally unavoidable or due to added negligence on the clubs part.

You give Tielemans as an example. Yeah ok, probably was the case when he had a year left. Many players at that point, will take the chance of holding out that year. This is why people mention the two year rule, either a new contract or make it clear they are for sale (again not saying it is as simple as making sure that always happens but have we even tried).

@honeybradgermakes a great point and gives a counter example to Tielemans with Iverson who has gone on record as wanting to leave to play football but the club messing him around and not entertaining fair values.

If you think the club have done everything in their power over the years to stop the amount we have lost on frees then fair enough. I disagree and think this summer does show that we can if we need to. To repeat, I am not saying we should have avoided anyone going on a free, just that we need to do better like we have this summer.

Rak-sakyi has gone to turkey. Surprised he wasn’t in bigger demand

You've got to imagine there's something unreasonable in the expectations/demands from either the player or Palace which has scared clubs off.  That or it's just the fact he hasn't proven anything in the long term above league one standard.  Think Palace made a mistake not loaning him straight out after his Charlton spell.

I'd be pretty pissed off if Deli Alli signs for another championship club, and then starts to do bits for them.

Having read up on his current plight, and situation, I'd take him on a 'pay as you play' contact. We couldn't really lose with that tbf.

- He's not disruptive in the respect of teammates (he actually knows Winks and Skipp well)

- We have space in the squad

- Our only two proper number 10s are currently out

- He's free, and can still be signed by anyone

- IF (big If) he can settle somewhere and be happy, he'd be a big big asset. Still only 28, and physical talent like that doesn't just leave you

Fair shout and I have enormous sympathy for Alli, but sadly I'd pass. I really can't see him escape the destructive spiral, similar to Stan Collymore's.

A Saudi, MLS or Birmingham/Wrexham will probably take a punt on him, but he'll be retired in the next couple of years.

Can we get CB Issak Toure, he has a left foot(and presumably a right one also) and is 6’8

Seeing him fail to head crosses, would be like Jannik boss level.

Suppose it depends how the recent incomings pan out as to whether we'll need another striker/number 10/number 8.

Otherwise both full back areas look weak, though I doubt the club will bring anybody in given we have two options in each position (which Choudhury seemingly now a right back).

I think we would have a decent crack at getting Marc gui. Doubt he gets any meaningful minutes for Chelsea, unlikely a prem team takes him on as they will be more settled.

So we might become a viable option for him
