Listened to Top's interview on BBC RL, and he referenced the change in playing style from Guardiola-style football to 'long throws' - that means only one man, Dave Challinor!

Rowett really doesn't:

Burton - Good job, got him a gig 2 levels up.

Birmingham - Took them from relegation candidates to 7th a couple of seasons later, before being sacked. Never been to those heights since.

Derby - Got them into the playoffs. Poached by one of the PL clubs coming down.

Stoke - Failed here. But never been close to getting promoted since, so not alone.

Millwall - 3 years of consecutive top half finishes for a club that traditionally yo-yo's between the second and third tier.

Birmingham - Relegated. But hardly there in a chaotic season and took over the job in very unique circumstances. Way better than a point per game return.

Oxford - Kept them in the championship. Sacked with the club in relegation trouble a year later.

I'm not advocating him and totally understand not wanting him but actually look at those jobs and he's only had 1 big failure at Stoke, who have been cack since. Only been sacked another 2 times, 1 of which was clearly the wrong decision and the other one is by a club that must expect to be in a relegation scrap. Not saying he's been amazing either but that's certainly a better CV with some of our recent appointments, and definitely better than plenty of others we're linked with.

Don’t know any recent manager we’ve recruited who’s had that many sackings at lower league clubs before joining us tbh.

Ralf Hassenhutl for me. No nonsense, and yes I know he was manager for Saints when we beat them 0-9 but he won’t stand for this lack of effort that pervades the club for years now.

Have we been linked with Rafa yet. We always have to be linked with 2 of  Rafa, martin or dyche

Rafa has a job, unfortunately.

like at least 50% mentioned on this 'realistic' managers thread, not gonna happen for that reason.

There's an interesting shout. They are doing well and has built a hard working squad. Maybe too much of a risk

Can't afford him....

think thats an appointment most......well ones who actually watch football lower than the championship would think of a smart one

but would he leave Lincoln in the middle of a season, im not too sure

if we could get him to agree to something now but come in the summer, that could work for all

Skubala over any of the other uninspiring names mentioned. We haven’t much to lose at this point and even if we go down he can evidently do a job in League 1! All jokes aside if given time could really build something with us. Another 3-0 win tonight for Lincoln.

I’d have rather have kept RVN, I’m pretty sure he would have got up promoted from this division, it’s dogshit

No he wouldn't.

Whilst this division is as you put it dogsh1t  RvN was and will always be a poor, tactically limited "manager".

Come on, we went an age without scoring a goal in consecutive matches  and went on a horrific loosing streak whilst he was in charge.

Add in the fact our defence leaked like a colender bur he never showed us he had a plan to rectify that.

The standard is poorer now, I'll grant you that,  but we are still leaking and RvN during his time with us never really generated  with the fan base any confidence that he knew what he was doing or that he had enough about him as a manager to actually get the team out of the sh1tv he had put them in.

Been saying Skubala for a while. It would be a risk, and I think that's a smart perspective. If the club is looking for a longer term managerial appointment I would pay the compensation to get him, if he's interested. If we're targeting a shorter term appointment he may not be the right fit.

Frankly disgraceful' - Leicester City board questioned as Chris Coleman update emerges

By Declan Harte

Published Jan 27, 2026, 7:30 PM GMT

This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Chris Coleman has emerged as a front-runner to take over at Leicester City following their decision to part ways with Martí Cifuentes.

A 2-1 loss to Oxford United on Saturday proved the final straw for the Foxes’ hierarchy, who pulled the plug on the Spaniard, who only took over the first team squad in the summer.

According to Football Insider, the former Wales manager is on the club’s radar as a leading option to replace Cifuentes.

The 55-year-old has previously worked with OH Leuven in Belgium, who are Leicester’s sister club, giving him an obvious working relationship with the owners.

Coleman is currently out of work, but has previously worked in English football with Fulham, Coventry City and, more recently, Sunderland.

Leicester urged to avoid Chris Coleman appointment

When asked about the possible arrival of Coleman as head coach, FLW’s Leicester fan pundit Louchlainn Martin claimed it would be a disastrous decision by the club, and he has urged them to avoid it at all costs.

He believes a move for the Welshman could tailspin into a relegation battle, suggesting that interim coach Andy King would be a better choice to remain in charge of the first team.

“The news that Leicester City are considering Chris Coleman does not surprise me in the slightest, but it is quite frankly disgraceful in my opinion,” Martin told Football League World.

“It stinks of a lazy bit of managerial recruitment. It sounds like the club just reaching out to people they know and who may be desperate for work.

“Jobs for mates, that’s how it smells. A cheap, easy appointment to make.

“Look, his managerial career is nothing special. I’m not the biggest fan of Gary Rowett coming in, but I think I would prefer Gary Rowett coming in over Chris Coleman.

“I don’t think that’s the right choice to make whatsoever.

“That would stink to me of relegation to League One if we were to do that, in fact I would probably stick with just Andy King, rather than bringing in Chris Coleman.

“Strongly against it. I can assure you that 95 per cent of the Leicester fan base would be strongly against that appointment also.”

Leicester fell to 14th in the Championship table with their defeat to the U’s last weekend, leaving them six points adrift of the play-off places.

The Foxes were hoping to compete for promotion straight back to the top flight at the first attempt, but a possible points deduction on the horizon could lead them to worrying more about the bottom three.

Coleman’s last role in football was with Greek side Asteras Tripolis, but he was dismissed from his position earlier this month.

Both Northcroft and Tanner suggesting the club will consult with the new technical/sporting director before appointing a new permanent manager.

That suggests to me they’ll give King as much time as possible hoping he holds the fort so they have more time to make this choice. And if not, look to shore him up with a senior, experienced individual as an interim management pairing.

Which is probably where the Coleman link comes from but **** me it’s a dangerous game given how close we will be to the bottom 3 with a points deduction. This could be a catastrophic couple of months.

Personally for me - I would love for Nige to come back in and give Kingy a hand, even in a coach/advisory role til the end of the season.
Come summer - get in Skubala. I didn’t know much about him until recently but he ticks every box for me, especially with devoloping young players and how his coaching style relates to ‘giving the players freedom to move about the pitch’ as opposed to strict tactics. Thats why Lincoln are doing so well, because they don’t have a ‘set’ way of playing. He allows his players to move into spaces and gives them information on how the opposition will likely set up and exploit the spaces they leave without the other team having any ideas how they will play. He’s also a Leicester lad (not sure if he supports us personally) but still has great local links.

I don't think it'll be that long. Likelihood is no club will let us take a tech director during a window in case they steal a target (even if we can't afford to buy them lol)

I think you could see the person in position next week.
