Great result and excellent first half performance. You could be critical that we dropped off in the second half, but basically it was last week in reverse. We have had enough games where we have started well but not driven our dominance home and dropped points (Portsmouth and Wrexham for example) and then games like last week when we had lost before we decided to play.  Given we had the view last week that it was too little too late, surely the same principle applies to Derby today?

Derby were poor anyway. We were only worried because it is Leicester and we know we can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I’d have felt that against any side. It was nothing to do with Derby. I’m not sure they really troubled us.

Skipp had a very good game. It has to be him and James together. Winks get out in Jan and Soumare if we can. BDR (actually carries a threat), Page and Ramsey when fit at 10.

Nelson doing what those of us who backed him knew he would, despite the geniuses on here banging on about 45 minutes against Huddersfield 3 months later! I’m pleased he can play with Vestergaard rather than being seen as an alternative to.

Thomas looked much more solid as well. He has also seemed better in the games Nelson has played.

Fitness and injuries pending, probably the best line up currently;

                      Stolarcryk

Ricardo - Nelson - Vestergaard - Thomas

                 James - Skipp

           Fatawu - BDR - Mavididi

                          Daka

Begovic

Aluko

Page

Monga

Ayew

Choudhury

Evans

+ 2 others

I’d like to see Souttar given a chance but it does seem like Nelson drags Vestergaard’s level up so if they are the partnership, I can live with it for now. We still need a new LB as Thomas can’t seem to sustain the level he showed today enough.

Centre mid is good and the 3 ahead but I would have Ramsey over BDR if fit and use BDR as an impact sub.

I mean despite the fact we won with Ayew today and his ruled out goal was wrongly so, I still think of the strikers we currently have, we tend to look better as a team with Daka. But it’d be the fist position to improve on along with left back.

Actually thought we looked more of a threat today when ayew was on the pitch.

You say bizarre, and to an extent I agree. However, what a confidence boost for the young lads to be trusted to see out a game and at local rivals too in some tough situations. We saw fight and passion, that’s why we want back.

This result (not necessarily the full performance) could and should be a catalyst and blueprint for the rest of the season!

It is a confidence boost yes. But they were still looking dangerous and we had 10 minutes left. I wouldnt be taking our rock in midfield off for a 17 year old in those conditions. I like the look of Aluko though. He is built like a man already

Wholeheartedly agree, they were dangerous and they were pushing to get the second… but they didn’t, the players held on and fought for that result. That can only be a positive sign, they can do it in tough situations, they just need to maintain it going forward.

I would love if we had that 1st half every game, maybe we’ll see that more often going forward.

Could just be that I really don’t like him but no way Ayew should’ve lasted that long on the pitch.

Really wish we had a striker

Yes  a competent striker would really make a difference

I'm really happy with that, there's been a mental fragility at the club for probably 5 years, I remember being 2-0 up in the prem against Brighton and not feeling confident and in that game we threw it away to finish 2-2. We have done the same in 3 games this season Wrexham, Portsmouth and Boro, I liked the subs Thomas added something, Choudary while brain dead added a bit of grit, Skipp I thought was very good, I'd put Begovic back in goal Stolarcyk looked a bit of a car crash. We have managed to hold two leads in recent games Stoke and Today, there's a lot still to work on but we dug in, had far better game management to break up the play 7/10 for me that.

Agree about Stolarcyk his distribution was awful all game too, put us on the back foot every time he shanked his kick out. He just doesnt instill confidence and looks like there is always a costly mistake waiting to come out. He got away with flapping g at the ball a few times including the late cross he jumped under towards the end. Fortunately the corner didn't come to anything. Feels much safer with Begovic in goal.

Thought Luke Thomas was good today. Skipp very good and James brilliant

Never seen Thomas look dangerous going forward. Some good crosses and even an overlapping run at one point. Needs more of that

The midfield three is set now.

Skipp James

Decordova-Reid

The energy of Aluko, Page and Thomas was great at the end.

The fact  7 of the 16 were academy and Faes and Winks werent farting their brains all over the pitch made a big difference.

Disagree with those who said Fatawu had a bad game. Instrumental in first goal. Roasted his man on 5 or 6 occasions and tracked back well.

Even if all we can do is get rid of Winks, Soumare and Wout in January and bring in a LB and a striker and things look much, much brighter.

No chance Skipp goes- not sure exactly how PSR works, but wouldn't it likely end up being a massive loss against the accounts given what we paid for him? On top of that, he's just starting to find his feet and deserves a run in the side.

The other two, absolutely. Time is clearly up for them both here.

JJ, Skippy, Bobby Reid and Nelson were excellent today. Good work from the rest of them too. Probably only Abdul disappointed a bit. I was particularly impressed with Skipp. I’ve been his biggest critic but he won the ball countless times, played positively, passed it well and got a goal!

And an assist?
