When I was in University Alan Young let me interview him and I couldn't put it out on socials in the end because he doesn't exactly hold back on all kinds of subjects.

On the ownership, he said he'd been pulled aside on multiple occasions to never criticise the owners after saying a bit too much. I doubt anything has changed and the fact it is the closed shop it is now allows them to control that narrative.

Doesn't really help that Owynn started off doing these small fan channels so he just gets his friends from them on. It hardly represents the fanbase as a whole. Majority of fans can't really stand anyone on them. They get about 80 views a video and rely on clickbait views. More importantly to the BBC, they're all still happy clappers for KPFC.

Our two most popular recent managers, O'Neill and Pearson, thrived on proving the critics wrong. Putting it in the dressing room, firing people up. Yet these owners just try to avoid it and pretend it isn't happening.

But theirs is the best way, clearly.

Agree with the point but the problem is there is a hell of a difference in the attitude and mentality between the likes of izzet, lennon, walsh, Elliott etc and the current lot.

Why doesn't Top go on BSLB and vent weekly?  it would instantly make him a cult hero and more importantly tick his "more communication with the fans box"

Imagine "any other business?" and Top starts a 10 minute rant on certain player's performance!

It's like going from one end of the spectrum to the other, try it Top.

Owynn was promised an interview with the owner back in early November … I think they are trying to maintain a relationship with the club that’s the issue they have rightly or wrongly.

I think that was just what ended up the internal interview out in Thailand wasn't it?

IIRC there were murmurings that Top was going to do an interview and that might be through RL but in the end they flew robot man out on his private jet to do on his turf.

The interview with RL was supposed to be in addition to the one in Thailand. Shock horror it’s not happened.

Pipes is great. It's the station who should do better. Are the public the customer of the station, or the club?

Didn't realise that it's either one or the other!

BBC Radio Leicester need to remember that they exist for the benefit of, and are funded by, the local community first and foremost and not the club. So start actually covering the absent owner and the decline through horrendous mismanagement.

This bit 👌🏼

They're funded by the license fee, and you just need to look at the politics coverage of the BBC becoming pure hagiography to see it's an issue throughout the BBCs structure - they don't do the whole "speaking truth to power" part of journalism out of fear that they'll be cut off and unable to bring any sort of coverage. And given how thin skinned the nepo baby and his butler have been shown to be, it's a reasonable expectation that if they cover, all access will be cut off. The BBC as a whole has clearly decided that giving fawning, one-sided coverage is better value to the license fee payers than no coverage at all. Without a sea change throughout the BBC, RL won't buck the trend.

They rely on a WhatsApp group for fan opinions and it's heavily dominated by those more aligned to the BMA. I'm in it and am probably guilty for not providing voice notes they can use for broadcast as that's where the majority of their fan voices come from.

After a few bevs, I've generally shared my opinion in there, much to the disdain of someone like Graeme Smith from Foxes Pride. One of my favourite interactions came after the "rudkins gonna die" chants, where we all critiqued it but I outlined how giving it more air would enable those singing it. Graeme berated me before going on RL to say how surprised he was that exactly what I said would happen, happened.

However, that chat is dominated by the likes of Graham Brock, Kate and Lox from Blue Tinted who have generally belittled anyone who has an opinion more aligned to foxes talk. I don't blame Owynn for this but GB in particular has bullied a couple of people out of that chat and ultimately others are seemingly tired of trying to interject.

That said, I look forward to Lox's response here rubishing what I've said because Chairman Mao knows best.

This sounds like a WhatsApp group I’d love to be in!

To be fair Owynn and Jack regularly have me, Jake and Jord on and we are very critical of our club and owner. They just won't necessarily go in on them themselves.

Wouldn't expect them to go in on them themselves, it isn't their job to give opinions.

I personally haven't heard you three say anything that bad about the owners on Radio Leicester but if you have then I'm glad it's not being as censored as it was back then.

The point still stands that only getting the same voices from the same podcasts and fan channels isn't representing the fanbase as a whole. It also allows the same control.

In an era where podcasts like yourselves are doing 2 hour episodes, they need to be doing way more. Theres hardly any content for the access they do have. They're also lucky anyone stuck around after the absolute disgrace of the Stringer era meaning we got zero access to any players or staff for years.

At least on TalkSport you get Ross from Sheffield slagging off Rudkin and Fatawu while curiously praising Dany N'Guessen as a role model winger..

That's not what got either of them the boot. One was involved in getting the other the boot but I'll leave it at that.

Hardly worth listening to these days. Make an effort when Pipes is on but can't be arsed otherwise.

It’s just all too soft and fluffy, too ‘BBC’.

Agree about the whatsapp parts though, that needs to be expanded to more of a fair reflection of our fanbase or scrapped entirely.

Pipes occasionally is spot on and does from time to time speak against players or the club but I get the impression even he is told to tow a line or hold back.

I think the criticism they are getting is fair.

Yes, Matt Piper says it how it is, and isn’t afraid to criticise the club, but he’s almost become their box ticked for ANY kind of scrutiny. As if they let him have a bit of a rant knowing that as an ex-player with a decent following in the fan base he can probably be a bit stronger without consequence.

But the fact the post match reaction and podcast discussion only ever focuses on trivial matters such as whether Mavididi is back in form, or how impressive Jordan James is, is a bit of a disgrace given the much bigger picture around the club right now. The voice notes from the same types like the ‘Leicester Fan TV’ guy just have such a rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic feel to them.

BBC Radio Leicester need to remember that they exist for the benefit of, and are funded by, the local community first and foremost and not the club. So start actually covering the absent owner and the decline through horrendous mismanagement. If what @dillonpanthers87 says is true, and people are trying to get on to discuss these things but being kept off the show, that’s a disgrace.

They're just another piece in Anthony's PR machine realistically. We know that he's been on the phone to independent podcasts, so god knows how much control he has over Radio Leicester given that they rely on having a good relationship with the club for access etc.

Anyone prepared to go on record about this and speak publicly either on WYS or BSLB?

Who tf is this Anthony guy anyway and what background did he have?
