MPH Posted 1 January Posted 1 January Think the plan is to soak up the pressure and hit them on the break. Tesco value nappies can soak up more then us! 2

Popular Post Finnegan Posted 1 January Popular Post Posted 1 January (edited) Whilst I don't have a lot of respect for the head coaches we've been hiring recently, I don't generally jump on the bandwagon of "X manager doesn't look after young players" if they don't happen to think teenagers are ready for the first team. But surely, surely, if your striker situation is that desperate then you take this opportunity to give Evans a game. How could it be any worse than starting Silko Thomas, a player we absolutely know with about 99% certainty has no long term future here unless we get relegated? I totally get bringing on Thomas to close out games, he works hard, he's fairly mobile, he's alright. He's like this seasons McAteer only at least McAteer scored a few goals. But starting at 9? Silko has never started up front, Evans clearly isn't ready as he can't even make the bench.

On Cifeuntes being slow to smell the coffee we are about 3/4 weeks away from that realisation.

Nelson also couldnt make the bench for a large portion of our season yet is our best centreback. Evans not being on the bench isnt proof of whether he's ready or not just that the decision makers at the club, who have a very poor track record, deem him not to be.

The swamp is drained, there's very little else to pick. We need incoming players in this window .. Desperately !!!!

I understand what you are saying but he has played about 185 minutes of championship football which is the equivalent of couple of full games and scored a goal so who knows he may be one who kicks on and does better than many of us supporters expect. Also Marti see’s him training every day perhaps he is grasping the tactical side of the game better than some of the younger lads who are only in their first full season in a professional football environment. 1
JimJams Posted 1 January Posted 1 January Everyone is convinced Silko is playing as the striker then?

Nelson was injured for a while and went away with England didn't he. Evans is only 16, can't expect him to lead the line

In respect of Evans if youre good enough youre old enough, we havent seen enough of him at senior level to make that judgement but we know for a fact that Ayew is not good enough so why not give Evans a chance. Evans was closer to the first team when we were in the PL so it's clearly a matter of judgment rather than him objectively not being ready.

Evans is only 16, can't expect him to lead the line I don’t think Nelson was ever out injured apart from after Norwich. He was simply not selected because Marti persisted with Faes & Vestergaard. 3
