They were bullied out of appointing him last time (mainly by those heroes at Bournemouth away) and we know they aggregate sentiment on social media etc.

Need to kick the anti Martin content online up a gear if we don't want him in the absence of any opportunity to voice it in person.

It only didnt happen last summer because Martin went for the Rangers job because he viewed it as a bigger job. Make no mistake fan power played 0 part in that.

Completely differening opinions. FoxesTalk in a nutshell.

I'm hoping @Sol thewall Bamba is correct but I'm leaning towards @Dames.

You can’t be serious??

Everyone, literally everyone always say how bloody difficult getting out that damn Championship is to the promise land, wether automatically or through play offs, yet because you don’t like Martin your just going too by pass that achievement? And claim it as nothing?? Give over :D

Don’t like his style of play fair enough, done terrible everywhere else he’s been fair enough, thrown players under tanks and don’t like his persona bla bla bla yeh that’s fine, that can all be said.

Don’t discredit a factual decent achievement though just because you don’t like him.

Let’s hope he gets the support he needs on the rebuild from the new SD, and that atleast it’s going too be started earlier than expected if he’s to be confirmed this week.

Finishing 4th with a club who were in the top three favourites for the division with the healthy help of parachute payments - it's not outlandish statement in regards his promotion with Southampton. It wasn't particularly impressive similarly would apply to any manager winning League 1 with Leicester City this season.

After ourselves he had one of the most expensively assembled squads in championship history and he came 4th so it was more expected to get out of the league than not to.

So it was easy??

I get what your saying but none of that makes it an easy achievement, we see all the time teams with excellent squads, or Premier League Parachute payments not bouncing back.

It just nonsensical to discredit it

You cannot knock the club. 8 managers in 4 years is great banter. Each one generally worse than the one before and ALWAYS a totally different philosophy to the one before. How is that not entertaining?! Variety is the spice of life and all that...

Of course, on a serious note it is baffling and it feels increasingly likely that this isn't incompetence, but deliberate sabotage.

These days most teams get promoted back to the premier league on the first attempt. Didnt say it was easy but he was majorly advantaged with the squad he had and the generous parachute payments. Its failure if you dont go back up.

Did his job then?

Granted we’ve got Top and Rudkin but look at our squad start of the season, look at our expenditure.

Yet we blasted our way to the bottom, money is needed but it’s not the only essential ingredient for promotion.

I don’t want Russel, I’ve made that abundantly clear, but the hypocrisy of fans running away with themselves sometimes is baffling (not you personally)

“don’t like him so his promotion season was a nothing achievement”

whilst then arguing in the pub the championship is the hardest league in world football to be promoted out of  couldn’t make it up

Interestingly Martin is not one of the major agencies

He’s with SMI, I wouldn’t consider them small to be honest

Yes, it’s easy. It’s a shite league with shite teams. Having Southampton’s resources was a massive advantage, and plenty of crap teams get promoted. By default, someone has to get promoted.

The National League is far more difficult to get out of. Let’s start scouting there? If you’re suggesting that getting Southampton promoted suggests he has qualities that National League managers don’t, I don’t agree with you. Most managers get where they are by having the right contacts and, in Martin’s case, misguided confidence.

Many other average managers would have got Southampton promoted. Loads. They didn’t have the right contacts or didn’t buy enough media clout in order to get the job.

I think youre making the last 2 scenarios up in your head fella and perhaps if they did say them things then maybe theyre not the same people. Calm down a bit.

Just scanned through a few pages of a hot thread to discover loads on here are having hissyfits and meltdowns over the innocuous words "we understand Russel Martin is in advanced talks"

I’m not the one crying about Russels impending appointment

I think people thinking it’s going to be the end of the club need to calm down

So I’m sure the ‘ advanced negotiations’ info along with the ‘ has other options’ has come from his side. In other words,  we are negotiating and he wants to rinse us for every penny he can.  Players do it so I suppose we can’t complain..

My only hope is that we end up messing up appointing Martin.
Seem to remember that Potter was all but done and then within a few hours it was Cooper.

Maybe… except we haven’t announced Rowett had departed yet, so there’s a genuine danger Rowett is this season’s Cooper to the Russell Potter character.

Banter. There’s no way we go shopping in the SPL for this upcoming rebuild.

Only thing I would say to soften the blow ever so slightly is I genuinely don’t think it matters who the manager is.

You have to be absolutely exceptional to thrive with dumb and dumber above you. Doesn’t really matter that’s it’s Martin.

I’d love to be wrong but the fans have had barely any influence for as long as i can remember, its just more noticeable now because things are awful.
