Whilst I don’t like Martin, we are going to be seen as the big fish in League One teams are going to sit back against us.

We probably still end up with the best squad in League One.

I think it naive to think we we will not be stuck with the most possession, so it going to be hard to play counter attacking football.

Possession football has never really been about the amount of possession though, it’s the intention. The intention is to have possession, rather than it being a byproduct of other factors as you are suggesting.

The thing that really characterises Russell  Martin’s style is a lack of intensity and movement off the ball. The aim is to keep the ball, not to score goals.

When we were a good side, the aim was to win the ball back and look for the most efficient way to score a goal. That’s the very basis of a good English football team. So it doesn’t matter how much possession we actually have, you can still play with a good tempo and be creative. You don’t have to (and shouldn’t) play at walking pace because you have more of the ball.

This idea that we should “get him out of the way” as he is inevitable at some point is slightly flawed due to the fact we have an absolutely critical squad and culture rebuild happening this summer, and we are going to let Russell Martin take it on.

When it fails, and it will, we are left with the same problems we’ve had for years - incompatible ‘technical’ players that don’t really want to be here. No leaders, no fighters and a disjointed squad. Rinse and repeat.

It will do damage that lasts years.

I was desperate for something to get behind next season. Some semblance of a fresh start and new direction. I just hope the fact Percy says he hasn’t accepted it yet is because this is leak is designed to test the water. It’s happened before.

It is inevitable because the clowns running the club have been obsessed with the man for quite some time.

Everyone here can see whats going to happen and we just at this point need it to happen. Its very obvious lessons have not and will never be learned so things need to get worse before they get better.

Trouble is they will be looking at that thinking. We wanted to appoint him last summer you complained look what happened.

It only didnt happen last summer because Martin went for the Rangers job because he viewed it as a bigger job. Make no mistake fan power played 0 part in that.

So it will be perfect for JV, Thomas and Mavadidi and nothing will change as it will just validate their useless style of play and lack of footballing intelligence. The lack of urgency is what killed our attacks all season and the egos from players who couldn’t back it up.  Slow first pass and no movement.

I can’t see Martin drilling Thomas to pass forwards quickly, Mavadidi to hold the ball and slot Thomas in who has moved into space.

And we, virtually unanimously, were delighted about dodging that bullet because we knew he was a failure waiting to happen.

He went up to Glasgow and failed spectacularly (how can you have a 29% win rate for Rangers FFS) and yet our lot still want him, despite such an abundance of evidence.

Top, Rudkin et al are incapable of learning.  They have become parodies of themselves.

The whole problem is no one gets a chance at this club, i still remember the same with David Speedie

Nope, the problem is the opposite. The problem is we have no standards, we are too late to say enough is enough. There’s a clear pattern of that over the years.

David Speedie was over 30 years ago and he wasn’t negatively affected at all by the fans’ perception of him so doesn’t that prove you absolutely wrong?

We had a bit of previous with Speedie from his Blackburn days, that's why he was unpopular.  Nobody thought he was crap.  I remember him quickly becoming a fan favourite here though.

Martin is different.  We don't want him because he is a terrible manager that will bring dreadful, boring football.

Genuinely can't understand why any clubs would want him. His style of play is dead and he's shown 0 ability to adapt in the roles he has had. It's not like his record was anything to crow about when his style was in fashion.

It definitely will not work in League 1, I'm absolutely certain about that.

The only commendation he can receive for his body of work is taking Southampton back to the premier league, which is no great shakes.

When I hear people praising him for this I scratch my head, as though finishing 4th that year was a major success.

The rest of his CV includes stinking the place  out in a 2 team league in Scotland and leaving them 8th out of 10, leaving Southampton rock bottom of the premier league in total disarray and about to accrue the lowest points tally on record and lower midtable league 1 and championship finishes with MK Dons and Swansea.

A few people clutching at straws saying it not done yet. Let’s face it, this will be pretty much done and we all know it.

There are a few people on twitter suggesting that for this level, this is a good appointment and I ****ing hate it. Make no mistake, this is the single worst realistic appointment we could make in our current situation and it’s ****ing vile.

Everyone also needs to remember, THIS WILL NOT BE CHEAP!!!! the will be a large contract for league 1 and a long one. This will ruin us.

Top is currently the worst owner in football in my opinion and he is now doing this to spite the fans because he does not care in an any way whatsoever.

for a long time now, I have said that nothing surprises me with king power but in truth this has suprised me even for them.

Agree with most of what you say but I think Top does care.  Trouble is, he's an absolute idiot.

I just can't understand why Rudkin, Top and co think Martin is the right choice. One decent season at Southampton and that was not exactly outstanding and the rest of his management time has been mediocre at best or distrarous. Rather than a manager/coach on the up he is damaged goods. Maybe he could rebuild his career at another club but not with us as we are desperate to stop the slide and need to get back to the Championship at least quickly.

They were bullied out of appointing him last time (mainly by those heroes at Bournemouth away) and we know they aggregate sentiment on social media etc.

Need to kick the anti Martin content online up a gear if we don't want him in the absence of any opportunity to voice it in person.

100% this.

Its agent led with someone taking a cut from the deal or just having zero imagination whatsoever. Same with all their appointments since Maresca

ok but there are different ways to have possession. Martin is the much maligned style where possession is the end goal, rather than a means to an end. A better point would be quick Vs slow football - you can play quick football in a draw them out then back to front like lightning (the classic counter attack), or you can play quick football with a lot of possession, it always moving and always probing. People want that, not the slow ponderous shit that is Brussball
