Hasn’t Chaplin already stated that Martin is asking him to play further back than he’s used to?

Agree, we still need a goalscorer but think it might well be a loan given the finances.

Not enough to go on from his Millwall spell, but these were his main stats when at Sunderland, exactly the type of winger we need to be signing to replace the holes that Fatawu and Monga have left.

The fact the manager has played him most of the pre season at RW doesn't make it his right position,, and again in my opinion, because I don't believe he will ever be effective out wide, actually hinders his chances of doing anything here.  The fact ha played at both Cardiff and Huddersfield  mostly out wide, and with very limited effectiveness sort of proves my point.

He's goal contributions per min were good at Cardiff.

 

I just want him to play, hopefully he gets a chance down the middle, we have a minimum of 51 games to play including cups so good chance.

His best performances for Cardiff were playing more centrally, but yes as you say, hopefully he gets the chance to play more central at some point, and he is able to lock down his position there.

Most of it was left wing from what I saw and I watched quite a few of his Cardiff games

I made a point of watching his games at Cardiff too, but i remember him being more effective when played centrally, and him looking less comfortable out wide. Then again im getting on a bit now so maybe my memory is playing tricks.

He tends to drift in when he does play wide anyway.

Which is one way Martin likes teams to play too, right? One side drifting in. So could be Alves drifting in from the right, Watson stretching play on the left.

I'd like to see the front players exchanging positions regularly, fluidity is the name of the game.

Remember as well that Martin plays his winger extremely central, and very tight, the wingbacks are usually his width. Wouldn’t be shocked with an AM 3 of Alves, Chaplin and Cullen got a game at some point
