I had a fiver on Bulgaria. I am simultaneously chuffed and appalled at my ability to gauge the public's taste in mediocre music.

He was fookin shite to be fair. Had all the appeal of Jedward.

Very unfair on Jedward. They did OK when they took part in Eurovision.

What a hangover. Did we win?

The hosts said everyone taking part was a winner so yes.

I am an unashamed Eurovision fanatic and the short answer is its state sponsored cheating. They changed the vote system this year as last year and the year before as they do ad campaigns and stuff in multiple languages to gather votes and tell people to vote 10/20 times for them, which isnt allowed but only in breach of "the spirit of the competition".

There are 2 conspiracy theories that run riot on Reddit. One is a lot of the jewish communities in many countries will block vote for Israel, the others saying Israel themselves are finding the loopholes and funding it. When it was you just needed a phone numver from that country to vote, you can spin up an eSIM in seconds. Now it is 1 payment card and locks to the users location. VPN and a few cards will get you lots of votes easy.

EBU had already put the Israel broadcaster on notice that it doesnt seem to be very open jouralistic wise and may be excluded. They let them in anyway and took the brunt of losing some big countries, one of the big 5 and having to overhaul its rules, only for Israel to do it again and show that the new rules didnt change much at all. All the shite the hosts were spouting of "we hope to see you back" etc etc. You wont get them back until this stops. It is at the end of the day a stupid song contest that gets political one way or the other, but folks feel its weaponised right now. We can all take shit songs winning and good songs coming last, but Israel havent had the 2nd best song 3 years in a row despite what the board says. Folks who like Eurovison just want their shitty song contest back and it not to be being used as a propaganda tool in the middle east.

Good Bulgaria were not in the contest for something like 7 years, come in and win it. I liked the song, but their semi final performance wasnt the best. It was better tonight. In our guys defence too, he sounded less shit tonight than he did Thursday, but I honestly thought he was miming at points, and miming poolry.

Some of the countries who awarded high public vote to Israel

finland, Moldova, Portugal, Georgia, Albania

none have a Jewish population of any note. Maybe their small population means their vote is easier to manipulate with dodgy accounts. (But that then brings you to Germany, Italy, uk, France etc etc )

or maybe they just do good Eurovision songs ?

If that were true, the jury vote would align more their televote than it has in the last three years.

Shenanigans have rather clearly happened, the Israelis practically admitted it and the EBU tried to change the system this year for that exact reason. Didn't work all that well, evidently.

The jury voting is surely more susceptible to politics ?

I’ve been on the excellent Eurovision website to check

going back to before the Gaza war, Israel had one year where they excelled in the public vote and one where there didn’t.
2019 was in Israel and they did badly all round

they won in 2018 where the public voted 1st and jury voted 3rd

2017 they had poor results

clearly 2024 and 2025 had a public vote skewed solidly towards them due to the 20 votes each account could make and a publicity campaign plus likely some dodgy voting. (Although if there had been provable voting fraud then that would make it so easy for the organisers to ban them on that basis - would have been such an easy out for those countries stuck between decisions)

i don’t think yesterday with its 10 vote limit and credit card ID system was nearly as susceptible.

it could just be that the songs are generally pitched well to the ev audience and people in some countries just don’t have the same views that many in the uk do.

The latter is a flat no. No one is consitent at it, they are not memoeable and none were good enough to reach the heights they did. This years most of all. Sweden bring a big one every year as they have an x factor style tv festival of it annually and even then they throw a banger at the wall and it doesnt stick, like last night, or they are near the top. They have broken the code by putting effort in. Norway also do the same and make songs you remember.

The former is a conspiracy theory black hole i could fall into, but i feel the changes where when you vote jt has to come from a payment card of a bank in that country has failed. The only thing that hampered Israel slightly was the change in promotion and advertisement of songs and the fact they were told 2 weeks ago to stop with their usual tactics of saying everyone had to vote for them 10 times.

EBU will never fix it. The juries didnt fix the political bloc voting, taking them away in semi's when they were found vote swapping didnt, bringing them back caused the issues to come back.

Eurovision is always political and you can brush it aside, now its being made to look clearly political and its turning folks away.

Finished about 2am in Bulgaria and there are vaguely post EU referendum type scenes in Sofia this morning as people wake up and google "what is Eurovision?"

For 70th anniversary this was one of worst eurovisions in terms of music, every song was pretty bad and certainly was ours. Deserved to finish bottom, who on green lighted that garbage. On some occasions the UK entry as harshly come bottom but that was truly bad. When will the BBC wake up and smell the coffee, contest is woeful, spending millions on a show we not exactly liked in. Time to withdraw or take a break for a few years.

All this analysis of the outcome of Eurovision. I mean, c'mon guys.

It's hardly life or world changing.

If you think it's rigged or fake or whatever, either don't watch it or watch it tongue in cheek and enjoy the charade.
