I remember watching him on loan at Falkirk and going "this guy will be our number one someday" – a short while later we signed him and the rest is history.

Saw him play at Notts County a few times and was gutted when Leeds signed him. Glad we went in for him after that.
what a player

Gutted he's had to end his career like this. Must be hard for him to have to finish his career on these terms as opposed to choosing when to retire.

I hope he goes into coaching and we can get him in some way, shape or form. We need some proper leadership and discipline and he would provide it.

Im going to say between 2013 to 2021, he was in the top five keepers in the world and who did he play for... us 😊  Biggest mistake Man City made was letting him go so young, miles better than Joe Hart. Sven deffo seen it, gave him his debut at Man City, took him down to league two with Notts County and then us. Outside of Leicester never got enough praise. I think leaving leicester in 2022 was bad both us and Kasper.

If honest treated terrible by the club in the end over 400 apparances. Never got a send off or testiomonial. Just shoved out the back door. Even kasper had to announce himself he was leaving. Took the club like two days to his announce departure.

Enjoy your retirement Kasper, and thank you for everything. :schmike:

And yes, that was your goal against Yeovil.

Has to be back involved with the club in some capacity, as some many have send he was the ultimate professional, held the highest standards and most importantly held everybody to account.

if the club is serious about trying to get back to where we have been then people like Kasper have to be at the heart of the rebuild.

No chance Rudkin gives him a senior role so over to you Aiyawatt, make the call and start the overhaul.

Top and Rudkin should already have got him on the blower to get him in as a coach whilst doing his badges.

But they won't have because 1. He's too influential. 2. They're thick.

We’ve been fortunate to witness some great goalkeepers in our history, but Kasper has certainly been the best in my lifetime.

Also echo some of the comments in this thread, it’s no surprise we’ve gone downhill when you fail to replace important characters like Kasper, Big Wes and Fuchs.

Get him in as a coach IMO. He's got high standards and knows how this club should be run. Players have taken the piss since he left.

He didn't leave the club on the best of terms, so can't see that happening.

I’m sure there was an interview where he said he’d rather be involved in football after playing as a technical director rather than a coach.

Everything went downhill. People refer to Vardy leaving, and what happened this season, but Schmeichel leaving was always the one for me. If he stayed we wouldn't have gone down.

Absolute legend and actually a shame he didn't quite reach 500 games as seeing two players reach that would have been incredible.

Yeah he was easily worth another 4/6 points that season, maybe more. Especially as we essentially had a keeper that couldn’t save anything.

Would have be much worse for him if Demark had made the World Cup.

This is something that has to change, there is a clear pattern of good people who care deeply for the club, who challenge and are then dispensed with. As a result the standards and culture have dropped off the edge of a cliff and we are now in league one with the club in absolute tatters.

if that doesn’t provide further evidence that too many in senior roles at the club are making decisions based around self preservation rather than the very best interests of the club then I don’t know what does. Absolutely rotten to the core.

Kasper Schmeichel announces retirement after serious injury as emotional statement issued

Leicester City legend Kasper Schmeichel has been forced to retire from professional football after suffering a serious shoulder injury, the goalkeeper has confirmed.

Schmeichel, currently at Celtic, sustained the injury for Denmark against Portugal over a year ago and was forced to play on after Brian Riemer used all of his substitutions.

The injury was then aggravated in Celtic's Europa League defeat to VFB Stuttgart in February and faced a year-long lay off following required surgery. Now, he has revealed that he has been forced to end his career due to the problem.

"When my contract with Celtic expires in June, I will stop my active football career," he told Danish site TV2. "It is a decision that has been made for me.

"I have consulted various surgeons and experts in relation to my shoulder, and they have told me that I should not expect to return to playing top football. I have given myself a lot of thought, but I believe that now is the right time.

Schmeichel boasts an incredible career, with Leicester City the mainstay throughout. He joined the club from Leeds United in 2011 under Sven-Göran Eriksson before going on to make 479 appearances.

Throughout his time at the King Power Stadium, he won the Premier League title in 2016, FA Cup, Championship title and Community Shield. He left the club in 2022 for OGC Nice before spending one season in Belgium with RSC Anderlecht and two years at Celtic.

The Danish Football Association has paid tribute after 120 appearances for the national team. They announced: "Kasper Schmeichel retires. From debut in Skopje to World Cup debut against Peru, great saves against some of the world's best nations, a European Championship semi-final at Wembley and much more.

"13 years. 120 caps for the Men's National Team. Thanks for unforgettable moments, Kasper."

He’ll be fine here then. Come back Kasper!

He had his limitations which is probably why he never went further than us - but he's made the most of his career and has great achievements.

Was a crucial part of a brilliant period for us and it's a shame he's had to end due to an injury.

He is a bit under-appreciated compared to Vardy, Mahrez and Kante but I think history will be kind to him when we look back.

Disagree. Kasper had certain standards, wanted them to be met and wanted things done in the right way.

He’s a chip off the old block.

I think his Dad could be quite abrasive too back in his playing days- but he was part of a dressing room of 8-9 leaders- Bruce, Robson, Cantona, Keane, Ince to name a few. Players who demanded the best

None of the above is a negative. It’s what we’ve desperately lacked since he left.
