The World Cup is quite bizarre. Under no other circumstance would I sit and watch Mexico v South Africa , let alone soak up the atmosphere..

Tbf there's nothing else on if you're just a football fan. I've muted the Mexico game and I'm watching the Spanish basketball playoffs game on the big screen and keeping an eye on certain darts matchups.

South Africa number 13 surname…I’ve had to triple check it

Can't believe there are two footballers with Coventry as their surname. I'm shook.

The water break needs to be addressed.

It's 22 degrees. We play in England hotter than that.

Silly music and adverts have been shoehorned in to appease the Americans and it will disrupt the flow of the game, largely. It's easy to get all foamy mouthed about developments in football but this one is particularly galling. There really isn't a need for it and it's a little crack at the soul of the game, in my opinion. Crass, unnecessary, and done to appease a traditionally uninterested audience. Oh, and to line pockets, of course.

I knew this world cup would take five minutes to get under your skin Foxile lol

(You're completely right though, it's absolutely shameless commercial shoehorning)

Hydration break lol how long before there’s a toilet break? Embarrassing

Only a matter of time before the hydration break is permanent regardless of weather and it then becomes an advert.

Rugby has adverts during Scrum breaks already.

Kaufman Cabs special

Did you manage to get the tiger stripe one on Vice City though.

Tough to say whether we(England), should win the group given the second KO game will be at the Azteca, likely against these. Altitude, heat and a delirious fanbase of 90,000+.

Five minutes is generous.

For balance - I wouldn't want to host a tournament of another sport and Anglify it in any way. Let's say, for arguments sake, we had the Superbowl at Wembley. I'd be ashamed if they were putting on afternoon tea as a spectacle or something weirdly English.

I'm just one for certain traditions and that flies in the face of American exceptionalism and consumerist methods.

This game is honking. Having too many teams will dilute the tournament

At the same time, the thought of USA vs Iran in the round of 32 (or whatever the bracket is, I've already lost count of how many qualify) is absolutely titilating. Iran will actually win that as well you know, they're one of the better teams in Asia these days.

Hell, it would be hilarious if both them and Iraq get further than the US

Mexico havent exactly been decent themselves, just less shit than South Africa which isnt saying much

True. If they play like that they won't go any further in the tournament. I've spotted huge gaps in their defense, South Africa is just horrendous and they can't even complete a normal pass in the final third.

Needless to say the quality is atrocious in this first game.
