We paid that when his stock was high in a January transfer window desperate to stay in the Premier League. Since then he's played about 20 minutes of football for us and has probably cause irreparable damage to his ankle in the meantime. I think some of the early business weve done probably means we can keep either souttar or nelson. So maybe its just a case of 12m or we will hold him?

I think the club have shown in the past they are willing to hold on, It will come down to how much of a fuss the players make to leave. It sounds like both of them want out though

It also wouldn’t make sense from his point of view to extend his contract given where we are.

LCFCJohn Posted 21 July Posted 21 July £12 mill would be deal of the century for us! Never going to happen!
Lambert09 Posted 21 July Posted 21 July Caligary is a very random one, especially after taking winks. Are they like us and just work with a few people

FrankieADZ Posted 22 July Posted 22 July find it funny Sheff Utd fans are grumbling about us wanting 10mil for Souttar yet they paid that for McGuinness..... and id say Souttar is alot better than him(i get souttar has been injured a while) 1

Inflation is a thing Before this summer it would have represented a 20% increase on the largest fee ever received by a League 1 team. The most any League 1 team has ever spent in one summer (other than Birmingham in 24/25) is £5m spent by Huddersfield. We're not in the big leagues any more. £12m for Souttar is League 1's equivalent of the Harry Maguire sale.
FrankieADZ Posted 24 July Posted 24 July (edited) so Sheff Utd tried another loan with option to buy with Souttar least the club are showing some balls now and not accepting some of these guff bids Edited 24 July by FrankieADZ 2
Bluearmyfox28 Posted 24 July Posted 24 July I’m glad they’re holding out for Souttar. He’s one of the players that’s likely on the lesser of the big wages we had. Stick to the selling fee and if no one meets it, he will be one of our most valuable players this season. 2

The fee we got for McAteer was the deal of the Millennium then. Souttar has featured, and starred, in two World Cups for a decent team that has progressed from it's group on both occasions. £12 mil would be par for the course, surely. Edited 24 July by shen

coolhandfox Posted 24 July Posted 24 July (edited) Loan isn't much cop as we would need another CB, so need money in. Edited 24 July by coolhandfox

I bet we offered him a ridiculous wage to come to a relegation threatened team in January.

slymunn Posted 24 July Posted 24 July 1 minute ago, AKCJ said: Really? I bet we offered him a ridiculous wage to come to a relegation threatened team in January. I'd seen it was around 40k when he was signed in the prem. Two relegation's will have more than halved that.

I can't really believe we offered him a below-average Premier League wage when we were flashing money left and right on no-marks. Surely he was on 20-30k a week at Stoke? Why would he leave that for a Premier League team if there was a very certain chance that he would have ended up on the same wage 6 months later? His stock was high, we were chucking money away and we signed him for a very good price. Doesn't make sense that we would offer him (and that he would accept) a low wage. Edited 24 July by AKCJ
