Suspect he was cautious yesterday, making sure he didn't pick up an injury that might scupper a move, but I sensed his the desire wasn't really there. Thought his efforts were substandard and in that sense, if his heart isn't in it, you may as well sell.

Agree a negotiation is to be had here, 10M overall but back load some of the fee until Jan 27 or June 27.

 

He wants to go and we need his wages off the books.

It’s not unknown for players to perform poorly in friendlies while looking for a move but then knuckle down again when that move doesn’t materialise. Souttar is known for being a very decent bloke and a strong character. I don’t think we’d have any problems with his attitude if he ended up staying—and we’d have the best centre back in League One.

I hope there can be some deal sorted so that Ryan One can be part of the agreement. Not sure what Sheff United value him at, but hopefully they can help themselves with a bit of a PSR fiddle. So something like £12m for Souttar and £4m for One. Perhaps I'm being naïve?

i actually dont think they will; Mccarron seems to be playing hardball alot and has seen already this summer, hes getting decent reward.

also Sheff U paid 10mil for Mark McGuiness last summer and he isnt half as good as souttar....only sort of compromise i could see....is if we want Ryan One from them, so they "pay" £10mil for Souttar but we said say £3.5mil for One.....

and given Souttar's contract is till 2028 as well, still id be very surprised if the club let him go cheaper than 8/9mil(then to 10 with add ons)

I reckon he wants out, the club want/need him gone but their is a gap on valuations so he was involved yesterday to retain our negotiating position. It will be similar with Okoli, Coulibaly, Faes and Skipp. 
 

I see this as a big week transfer wise, I think there will be a lot of movement as clubs return from training camps and the last pre season friendly on the horizon. I think we will see 4 or 5 significant departures and a couple of key signings before the Genoa friendly, then another flurry of activity before the Northampton Carabao Cup game.

Aren't loyalty bonuses essentially based on players not asking to leave, could be we're trying to force his hand in to requesting it

I doubt any of the add ons have been met as I would assume it would be linked to premier league survival and given he has made about 20 appearances for us, again I doubt it has triggered any appearance related bonuses. 
 

Also with amortisation you can only write off the fee over a max 5 year period. The rules were changed after Chelsea were offering 7 and 8 year deals to try and find a loophole. So by that reckoning I think we will have £6m on books. The issue is finding a club willing to pay that and a bit more upfront before add ons given his injury record. We will want some profit to help generate budget and wriggle room for incomings. 
 

My guess will be we will try and compromise at £7.5m plus some hefty performance and promotion bonuses. Which if hit exceed the £10m but reduces the initial upfront payment for potential buyers, who will be concerned about his long term fitness.

Agreed, I think West Ham is our best option of securing a decent deal, failing that it will take a sale or two or some very clever negotiating to be able to close a deal with Sheff Utd or Stoke.

and if he doesn’t request a transfer we’d have to pay the loyalty bonus for the final year of his contract..

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has confirmed that he wants to bring Leicester City centre-back Harry Souttar back to the club this summer.

Souttar is one of many Leicester players with interest this summer after their relegation to League One. The Australian centre-back has been linked with moves to West Ham, as well former sides Stoke City and Sheffield United.

 

City have reportedly demanded around £10million for the defender after paying £15m for him back in January 2023. He spent time on loan at Bramall Lane during the 2024/25 season before he ruptured an Achilles tendon to force him to return to Seagrave.

 

Following their 2-0 win over Rotherham United on Saturday, the Blades boss confirmed an opening bid has already been rejected by Leicester. “I know people talk about it and say I shouldn't be talking about other players, but he's one that obviously has got history with us and we have been linked with him as well," he told the Sheffield Star.

"We've already had conversations with Leicester about taking him. So, the conversations will be ongoing. He's a player that we obviously like and he had a great time on the pitch for us and off the pitch with the supporters. You know how much they rated him and they valued him.

“So it’s ongoing, but if it's not to be, it's not to be. And if it is, then we'll do what we can do. I’m speaking with the board and Steve Bettis in terms of trying to make something happen and we'll go from there.”

Asked if Leicester's £10m valuation could see their focus turn elsewhere, he added: "Well, we identify. We use a data team that chucks up players. We identify players and then about passing the buck, then it's my job to coach and manage the team.

“But I know we're trying. So, I should imagine I’ll speak to Steve after this and we'll see where we are at, with his conversations with the owners as well.”

Well I saw him play last game last season and he was easily our best defender. Scored too. Played well for Oz too. If he actually wants to go and take a pay cut with shef u it's at least 10m. If it is correct that Nelson wants to go then he must go first else he leaves for free next summer losing us 5m ish.

Im absolutely certain there’s more than just 1-2 clubs interested in him. Wilder has just been happy to play it out in the media. Blades have clearly tried to play the ‘ he’s been here before’ card to try get him to hand in a request.

Probably not best suited to Russell-Ball tbh. He’s looked a bit cumbersome since he’s been back. If he wants to go and we can get 7-10m I’d let him go. If Nelson wants to leave, let him go too. Same with Okoli and Faes. Just invest some of the money on centre backs that can defend and play out from the back at this level and who actually want to be at the club. Then if/when we get promoted, upgrade again
