UEFA Discussing Boycotting the FIFA World Cup

European nations, led by UEFA, are considering boycotting the World Cup if FIFA proceeds with plans to sell a stake in a new $20bn subsidiary.

UEFA criticises the lack of transparency and argues that football’s governance should not be treated as an asset to be traded.

FIFA defends the move as a way to raise funds for member associations, but European nations fear it could compromise the integrity of the sport.

Infantino is really, really starting to annoy me.

They both have corruption but fifa seems to take the cake lately.   Corrupt asf.

Take europe nations out of FIFA and the worldcup will just be South american teams always winning it. Perhaps an African nation might stand a chance.

At this point, I'd be more excited to watch Euro's every 2 years.

So indirectly being sold to Trump!

‘Thrive Eternal is expected to lead the proposed investor group for FFE.

Thrive is an American venture capital firm founded by Joshua Kushner, the brother of US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared’

I hope Europe does withdraw from the World Cup. It will make it a meaningless competition without so many countries, many of the strongest as well. Nothing less than FIFA will deserve.

Cute but they won't have the balls to do anything.

Actions speak louder than words and whilst they still need to discuss it, I have absolutely no faith in any backbone from UEFA as a group to tackle this nonsense.

Not sure who can really stand up to FIFA unless it's player and fan led.

I can't see this getting a response akin to the outcry re. the European Super League. I don't think UEFA will get the same backing.

Frankly, a large part of non-European football fans would probably welcome a move like this. We've just seen how much Americans are willing to bow to corporations.

Should have been the response as soon as that muppet pitched a 46 team world cup.

Better late than never I suppose.

Isnt the  the plan for the next one is 64 teams.....

Good threat - they know FIFA can operate a World Cup without European teams, but ultimately I am sure UEFA will settle for a larger slice of FIFA's new revenue streams and that will be that

Yeah, apparently we didn't have enough dodgy Sunday league football in the last one. Something something Cape Verde though.

Yep no chance they are boycotting this. Too much money involved.

Football is no longer a European game, it's a truly global spectacle. Would imagine most around the world will want and vote for this. We forget that in our British/European bubbles.

I can see that happening, with the big Football Associations coming out against it. FIFA however won't care. Infantino doesn't care about football, he just wants to commit more corruption than Blatter it seems. He will win presidency again because he goes around getting all the small island nations backing with a few million quid and it gets him over the line. All of UEFA could not vote for him as president and back Deschamps and it would still be a resounding victory.

UEFA will moan.  CONMEBOL may moan. CONCACAF will back it as they will make the money out of it, CAF will back it. AFC may stir, but won't kick up a fuss and OFC will back it is my prediction.

Would be good to see UEFA vote to leave the world cup. Get another Euro's or a 4 year UEFA V CONMEBOL on the go a bit like how the rugby guys do north v south hemisphere.

I think they'd only do the TOP 2 of each group qualify though meaning that we still roll into a R of 32 like this one just gone, not massively against it.

The president of FIFA currying favour with smaller nations via £££ isn't really anything new, I won't be asking you for the lottery numbers just yet mate

As many faults UEFA have at least they released a statement outraged by this, the rest have been tepid responses.  Just compare FIFA world cups to UEFA tournaments, I know as a fan which one I'd go to.  The world cup for a while now has nothing but screwed over the fans.

The UEFA World Championship to be held in 2029 :D

If it was hosted across Europe, it would still be closer than some of the games at the last World Cup!
