That’s the issue, though, where is the next £45 million coming from to keep us afloat?

 

Yes, we’re cutting costs like wages and amortisation, but the club is mortgaged up to the hilt with payday loans.

 

This isn't just about Cullen in isolation, it's about our long-term future. We’re running out of sellable assets and while he may help us get out of League 1, he’s already shown he’s an average Championship player.

 

I personally think we should only be paying transfer fees on players who are younger with a higher ceiling, players we can actually develop and sell for a profit.

 

It basically about being sustainable as a football club.

To keep us afloat, what is your time line here, do we need another 45m now or in 3-5yrs?

If we go on your model spend £1m on a 20yr old when is he being sold & for how much for, how much will £1m turn into in 3yrs playing 2 of those yrs in Lge 1 & the championship?

Or do we spend £10m on a half baked playing hoping in 3yrs he becomes fully baked but even so still playing for Leicester city in Lge 1 and championship you hope to get what, 20m?

We have 10-15 academy lads that could generate more than 20m (combined & some) in the same 3yrs without spending a penny.

We need players that can contribute now and in the way the manager wants, it is all about getting out of Lge 1 and sitting on the next Yamel that we brought in for 700k wont mean Jack if we don’t.

Are you really saying we couldn’t spend £1 million on a player who contributes immediately and still has genuine upside?

 

Look at our last 3 or 4 years, how has spending transfer fees on experienced players actually worked out for us?

 

Do you want to name those successes over that time? 

 

You bring in experienced heads on free transfers like Chaplin and save your actual transfer budget for players with high ceilings.

 

They don't need to be 19-year-old projects either they can be 20 to 25 from lower leagues or abroad, ready to play now with plenty of room to grow and sell on.

 

Swansea paid a couple million for 

Zan Vipotnik who just finished top scorer in last seasons championship with 23 goals.

Spending a million on him is hardly the end of the world we spent 25 times that on Skipp and I bet Cullen looks like a much better player on the pitch.

That’s all relative to budget though, and how much is left

The Skipp signing represented 25% of the budget spent.


The money spent on Cullen isn’t really the issue if more are coming in on fees.

Excellent signing. Sounds like it's only a million as well which if decent considering, and not the silly 2/3m others have said. I also doubt he's on silly wages having been at a mid to lower Swansea his entire career. We in league one are not showing him a financial gold mine but an opportunity to play regularly, which he's not going to have at Swansea this season.

That’s fine but you then can’t get upset when the club sign people like Ayew and skipp rather than following the scouting model :dunno:

Well Riccy, he was reportedly one of the lowest paid members of their squad. Constant 2 year and extended contracts and this is the financial powerhouse of Swansea... I wouldn't be surprised if he was on 10/15k max and we've matched it which is fine for us a starter as a club expected to get promoted.

 

Someone else said they've heard we've paid £1m which I think is fair and believable as well.

I would expect we have had to sweeten the deal to get him to drop to L1, same with Chaplin.
