I just can't get excited by players that bottom half Championship teams don't want. It just rams home how far we've fallen so quickly.

 

My biggest concern though is that we aren't signing players with resale value. The last time we went down to League One our transfer business was a good mixture of experience and players that could develop then make the step up to the Championship or even the Premier League. I'm not seeing that so far. It's all loans, older players and players making a step down.

The sort of player I wouldn't pay attention to so know nothing about. Decent enough career to suggest he may he handy for us though. 

We look like we are lacking physicality in the forward areas, we seem to have a type in relation to small forwards. Hopefully there is bigger striker coming soon.

We had a few quid then thanks to Milan Mandaric. This time it’s akin to the Kelly/Allen era without a penny spare.

Said my bit on him, his arrival and role in this squad will be influenced by other incomings and outgoings. If he's the only striker we are signing then it's a horrific piece of business as he'll be hung out to dry. If we get at least one proper centre forward in and Reid goes then you can see where this works as he's a busy versatile attacker that plays well in a front two or one of the 3 positions behind the striker.

 

If Reid does stay and we have Chaplin as well then it seems like overkill when we have Alves too but suppose it's a long old season.

We spent £1m on 19 players that season. We’ve spent more than that just on Cullen. Even taking into account inflation I don’t think money can be the excuse.

It reeks of more short term thinking. Give the new manager what he’s asking for, for next season alone, and then what? What if the manager is sacked? Then what? What if these players aren’t good enough in the Championship, like recent evidence suggests.

Never particularly impressed me playing for Wales but I do think he'll piss league one. Not too bothered about any resale value, the youngsters are our future in that sense and its his job to come in and be a good pro to help them achieve that.

Probably my one take is that at least he does graft. We're desperate for players that actually put a shift in because it's genuinely in their DNA. 

 

He massively lacks technical quality, he isn't fast, he isn't strong and the position generally best suitable to him (honestly, probably a box to box midfielder, which Bellamy has tried a bit with alright results) is somewhere he almost never plays. 

 

I'm not enthused, especially for any noticeable money, but he should come in with the right attitude which is better than half the squad we have.
