Popular Post AKCJ Posted 5 August Popular Post Posted 5 August Dread to think how much we'll be paying him. It'll be over 20k a week, easily. He's not giving up a Premier League salary to come to Leicester without us matching it. Plus he's ancient, hasn't ever pulled up any trees in the game and is coming off the back of an awful injury. Great signing for league 1 though, eh! 4 3

FoxesWalk Posted 5 August Posted 5 August (edited) He just signed a one year extension as a squad player at a prem team, so probably on like 20k? Edited 5 August by FoxesWalk

jv1 Posted 5 August Posted 5 August Will probably be a loan won’t it and we cover half his wages - if it’s that deal maybe even Rik will be less unhappy - big maybe
pmcla26 Posted 5 August Posted 5 August Regardless of age, he’s a coup at this level, too good for League One.
FoxesWalk Posted 5 August Posted 5 August If it’s a loan and we are paying a portion of his prem wages then it’s fine. Chaplin link up etc., but shouldn’t be touching him on a permanent deal.
Ricey Posted 5 August Posted 5 August ✅ Old ✅ Little ✅ Recent ACL ✅ No resale value ✅ Likely big wages for L1 He's perfect. It seems we are putting all our eggs in one basket again. It all feels very short sighted. What if Martin fails? What if we do go up? Are players like Burns, Chaplin, Cullen etc going to all of a sudden become quality Championship players? No. We know their ceiling and their trajectory. 3

Until then competition is a good thing. Yeah fair point, and we need a back up RWer. Alves is guile, Burns bring power and pace so match RM requirements to have different types. 4

The first team 'squad' should only be playing max 50 games.

Surely they’d also win the lower league cups by the same logic 2

We've a really young squad now, too young if anything. Two, three or even four older heads is good If you’re 30 you are basically dead and should be hidden away from society. Im sorry I don’t make the rules 2

LCFCCKEANO Posted 5 August Posted 5 August Could go wrong and could not, I don’t think our academy lads are all quite as ready as suggested here, some definitely are but some are still very raw. We may not win the league with these signings but we would not win the league with only our academy and 20 year olds from Eastern Europe, as fun as that would be to watch 1

Sorry, but anyone wanting to rely solely on youth and expecting our inexperienced academy lads to earn promotion at the first attempt (a non negotiable BTW) needs a reality check. Over the course of 46 games we will absolutely need senior professionals with relevant experience. RM has spoken about due diligence of bringing in players with good character that fit his plans. There will be plenty of game time for younger pros, especially if we are dominating games. It'll hopefully be the perfect environment for them. What is also a likely non negotiable is needing to raise £30-40m in transfers next summer like we've had to every summer just to keep the wolf from the door. The way that is even remotely possible is turning young players in to good players and that will be seriously impacted by the approach we are going down. It's a finely poised balance we have to get right. 2
Samilktray Posted 5 August Posted 5 August So he was out of contract earlier in the summer, he renewed with Ipswich and now we've decided to pay money for him? Even we aren't this thick surely????? 1

They'd have just let him go if that were the case. 1

teblin Posted 5 August Posted 5 August (edited) I do get the apprehension as its not just about age its about injury record. And we'll probably be paying over the odds wages wise. Hopefully we can ditch some of the other higher earners to compensate for that. But it does feel a bit like Logans Runs on here sometimes. We need a mix of experience and youth, we've signed 2 young players on loan. We have 4/5 I expect to be involved (Braybrooke, Aluko, Jayden Joseph, Page, Alves and maybe others) We sign Berner, Edworthy and Dickov in League one last time. No where near wages we might be paying some of these though I guess. Edited 5 August by teblin 1

suffolk fox Posted 5 August Posted 5 August So let me get this right. We are signing an experienced winger plus 30 yrs old who excelled for Ipswich in league 1. Who according to some is crocked because he had an ACL injury. Meanwhile, Ipswich sign Fatawu from us for 20 million, who was hit and miss for us last season, and has had an ACL injury. Yet, people are having a meltdown over this. Logic, reason non ................... 2
