Ha, I’ve just watched it again- he turned on the line of the 18 yard box and struck the ball well inside the box, and not on the angle- so about 17 yards.
I was only focusing on the implication that all our goals were 20 yarders. Not strange at all to question exaggerations on FT-  mind there’s too many of them to on here to question!

A lucky win , with encouraging signs from our new players it seems.

Seen it again and it was at a slight angle and just inside the box, yes. I only seen it once before in real time and it appeared to be 20 yards. Nevertheless, my overriding point was hardly an exaggeration. We were battered for 40 minutes and their style of play was far more conducive to generating several chances in that second half, one offside call for a goal which looked like it could have been allowed for them.

Interestingly, this is the first league game this season where we have had less that 50% possession and yet we have scored 4 goals away from home.

I wonder what Martin will think of that.

Less possession = less opportunity to make mistakes.

Thing is, attack wise not many would cope with us, defensively we’re a disgrace……. Tactically it’s a complete mess….. that was there for all to see today, we won because of Page and Riss, and a lack of quality from Stockport and a bit of luck.

No doubt there will be a bunch of goons, on socials spouting how great it was, but it really wasn’t…. It was basically Plymouth but they scored, defensively horrible…. But the biggest problem is the overall package, tactically we’re so poorly managed and coached we’ve got a manager saying all of the wrong things, a group that look disjointed and disinterested and are dangerously close to this going tits up when it can be prevented.

A good owner would have spotted the red flags weeks a hi, and would have sacked him, but unfortunately we don’t have one of those. He’s everything this board deserve, but we will be the brunt of the joke.

I’ve just watched the goals. How many will we concede where Souttar and Thomas both go for it yet somehow couldn’t be any less of a threat. The first goal was a standard Thomas goal to concede, don’t close down quick enough, let them into the box by backing off and applying zero pressure or attempt to tackle.

Another game over where you think there is no chance Thomas gets picked again.

He’s a brainless player - what’s wrong with what he said?

Picking out one player to vent your ire on when the whole fvcking club is a shambles appears to be vindictive - rather than appreciating the fact that six from seven of the managers employed by our selectors have all been lambasted by the insightful 'supporters' commenting on this forum. Top and Rudkin keep getting it wrong - that's the key issue. The truth is that we have incompetents running our club. Connor Coady got it right - there's something deeply amiss at City and blaming the players is the easy option and the wrong one.

Also the first game where we have nearly matched the opponent for long balls

Is the measuring ceremony before or after the match ?

Good to win as I thought we would lose. You should not be going 4-1 up and holding on within ten minutes, however.

Our goal return before was pitiful so four is very good. Defensively we have to sort things out, 10 in six games is unacceptable.

Appaling at the back , im thinking RM is just collecting pay offs from clubs to fund his life style. I mean hes already had 12m total and goes home to give Lucy Pindar a portion every night. Why would he care lol

What was all the fuss about souttar ? hes quite the liability and i think id rather have calamity Faes back in the team. Im not even going to type about Mcarthy as im going out at 9pm.

I think we have the players but they just are not good enough to adapt to this stupid play the ball out from the back. You can bet every League 1 team now knows to just press the hell out of us at the back and we will collapse.

Can we be any worse off by playing honoran and the new kid fron iceland as centrebacks with jj at right back and aluko at left back , just stop playing it around ffs

It might not be like that every week.

Stockport play a 3-4-3 and Martin had set us up to go with an aggressive high, man to man, press; with Braybrooke taking their middle centre half and Riis / Cullen taking the outside two.

But this dragged Page and Lundstram up the pitch with them and left a huge amounts of space behind them and in front of our back four, making it far too easy for Stockport to clip balls into the front 3 and get us on the turn - and when they were able to do that, they looked very dangerous.

Now, previously, we’ve pressed with a 4-4-2 shape, so this was obviously a decision Martin went for this game in particular to match up with what Stockport do; and I’d argue it didn’t really work for the reasons mentioned above.

But equally, you could say it did because on the flip side we scored four good goals today.

It should also be mentioned, to his credit,  Martin did change things defensively to close the game out, both in shape and the way we pressed and suddenly Stockport were much less of a threat.

We became more compact and from that both Souttar and Thomas looked far more assured - suggesting that the reason didn’t before was more to do with our co-ordinated team defensive effort more than on them individually today.

Incredibly well balanced post for this site!

Good to see Kanga finally get a run out. Shame to see Bristric and Doyle miss out completely, with Howell unused though.

Lundstram looks like the exact profile of midfielder we’ve been missing for years.

That's just bollocks though isn't it. We had 60% in the first half and most likely upped that as we went 4-1 up.

Even if we had won 4-1 there’s no point getting too carried away. It feels like we haven’t back up a win in ages.

Good performance and win at Barnsley then maybe we can get excited.
