Babylon Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Suprised we've not been linked to sharp more myself. Maybe because we can't afford him.
Manwell Pablo Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Maybe because we can't afford him. Shhh don't spoil the Billy Sharp dream.
morris1234 Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Maybe because we can't afford him. how much do you think he would cost then??
Mort Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Maybe because we can't afford him. Your right, but neither can Norwich or Wednesday... also we've been linked (lazy journalists IMHO) to McLeod with bids in the region of 1.5-2mil On the subject of Sharp, i get the sense that Wolves (with their new investment) are about the only championship team who could afford him and if they dont get him then he'll find himself stuck with S****horpe at least till January, he's in the position of being overhyped and overvalued beyond the means of most championship clubs but still being insufficently "proven" to interest clubs in the prem.

Norwich have had a bid accepted, so yes they can afford him. As have Wolves.
Stevosevic Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/details.asp?b...6269754|p|536|0 Milan Mandaric has revealed he would like to sign Southampton's highly-rated Polish striker Marek Saganowski. The Leicester City chairman has also admitted that fan power helped to keep Neil Warnock from the Walkers Stadium hot seat. In a question-and-answer with supporters which starts in today's Mercury and continues tomorrow, Mandaric says City have started “a major rebuilding job†this summer. “We now need midfielders,†he said, answering one fan's question. “But we have started from the back. We have bought a goalkeeper, new defenders. Now we look to the midfield and the strikers.†Asked specifically if he was interested in buying Saganowski - the Polish striker who spent the second half of last season on loan at St Mary's, scoring 10 goals in 13 games - Mandaric said Saganowski was a player he rated. Saganowski has two years left on his contract with French club Troyes. But Troyes are understood to want to sell and, if the fee is right - around £700,000 - they have said he can go. Southampton have the first option on him but have so far failed to agree personal terms for the striker, according to the Southern Daily Echo. His agent, Jaroslaw Kolakowski, has said that Saganowski wants to stay in England. “There are a number of clubs interested in Marek,†he said. “He wants to go to a good club. Southampton have been his first choice as he enjoyed his time there. But, if talks take too long with Southampton, he could move on.†Asked if he fancied bringing the forward to City, Mandaric replied: “I'm lying in wait there. Saganowski is a player I like. Watch this space, that is all I can say.†Mandaric also said that during a month-long period, he interviewed 10 people for the manager's job at City. He said he respected Neil Warnock's record as a manager but received so many negative letters and emails from City fans that the strength of Blue Army opinion put him off Warnock. “I could have gone for a bigger name and got more headlines,†he said. “But would they have wanted the job as much as Martin Allen?''
Gené and Tonic Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 Nice...hopefully he can make it happen. I do find it a bit worrying that he reads fans emails and letters..I mean lets face it there could be a few idiots or fans of other teams pretending to be us that could give him real abuse. I know he's not likely to leave now but still.. Although it is good that he listens to the fans no doubt..it's just that the fans don't all agree with each other either.

I doubt he pays much attention to single incidents, he's not stupid. However if he spots a recurring theme within people's e mails, or whoever reads them for him... Then he might pay more attention to whats been said?
Manwell Pablo Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 The problem with Sagnowski is that I can see him being one of these players that impresses during a flury of games and then turns out to be shit once some unfortuante team has laid down a decent amount of cash for him.

Particularly as he hasn't exactly pulled up any trees previously in his career. I still think he'd be a good signing despite that risk. Every player we've been linked with comes with some sort of risk, else they'd be signing for a decent club.
mancunianfox Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 Every player we've been linked with comes with some sort of risk, else they'd be signing for a decent club. Well said. People seem to be forgetting that in our position we have to take risks on players.

Not particularly sure why troyes didnt want him, they got relegated so they might have seen him as not needed, however to move to england and get 10 goals in 13 games in what is probably the hardest league in the world to play in is incredible! yes its a risk! but like fez said theyre all risks really!

(saga)
The People's Hero Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 Every player we've been linked with comes with some sort of risk, else they'd be signing for a decent club. Absolutely. The amount of people who fail to realise this is astonishing. Or at least it would be, if this place didn't collect idiots.
Gené and Tonic Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 As much as a risk this may be you can't argue with 10 in 13. I know if he ended up signing for Southampton I'd be really disappointed, as soon as someone signs for us we naturally try to pick out why it may be a bad signing, but if they sign for someone else, we wish we'd gone in for them. Classic human nature

Babylon Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 Or at least it would be, if this place didn't collect idiots. I think the home page at the day centre must be foxestalk.
potter3 Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 mcleod got 24 in 41 i think! Yeah that was two divisions lower though. And Saganowski's ratio was better, although I doubt he would get it up over 46 games.
MPH Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 mcleod got 24 in 41 i think! not in the championship he didnt, in division 2 maybe not not the champ..
Fez of Mahrez Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 Yeah that was two divisions lower though. And Saganowski's ratio was better, although I doubt he would get it up over 46 games. Snigger.
potter3 Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 Snigger. I meant... although I doubt he would have kept it up over 46 games.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 Bet a few Saints fans are worrying now. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ity/6236798.stm
ronnup Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 Bet a few Saints fans are worrying now.http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ity/6236798.stm They'll still sign him. this is no new information, just that Milan likes him. They'll sign him, and this has just made us excited for no reason.
Joe. Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 He eould certainly be an interesting signing. A risk yes, but any player you sign will be a risk. His goalscoring record last season spoke for itself, it's just if he can consistently do it. I'd rather spend £700-800k on him than £1 million+ on McLeod.
