Today I got an offer from Churchill College, Cambridge. Tough tough grades to meet and far from a certainty but I'm over the moon.

That's brilliant mate. Well done you

Really fed up, got permanently bad ankles. I'm only 25 and sometimes when I'm at work and on my feet all day I get home and can barely walk. I've had these injections on them a couple of years ago similar to cortisone injections and they did nothing and then I had keyhole surgery last winter which did very little so I requested to see a new specialist.

Go and see the new specialist today and he gives me some insoles which I have tried on numerous occasions before and sends me back to do physio which I have also done countless frigging times. He told me surgery was the last resort and that will more than likely not work. I wish they just break both my ankles and reset them. Its so frustrating as I can't go on like this or else I will probably be in a wheelchair by the time I'm mid 30s.

Sounds really painful mate. Have you always suffered with this since you were a kid, or did something happen to bring it on?

I have always suffered mate but there just getting worse and worse and nodoby I have ever seen seems to know what it is as nothing shows up on any of the scans/x rays I have had.

You must feel massively frustrated I would imagine. I assume you're going through the NHS and not private?

It's good that you requested to see a new specialist, but I guess that doesn't stop you from requesting yet another different one if you're not happy with the results this time?

There must be something else they can try to sort it out, surely? I can't believe it today's world of modern science that there's no solution to your problem.

I'd be persisting like a bastad until you get it sorted to your satisfaction, but easier said than done I know.

I feel for you mate and is there anything your employer can do to support you? They have a duty of care and have to make reasonable adjustments for you if you've got a medical condition I think.

Been off sick today and yesterday. Very frustrating as I'm just around the house and cant really do anything productive. Will no doubt have a bit of a catch up to do in work too when I back...

Gonna be interesting today. We got a new head chef in this week and he's been a bit of a cock, so much so that without going into too much detail (because it would take years to type everything out) last night I felt I had no choice but to walk out on him he was that unbearable.  I'd spoken to the owner over the phone about his behaviour a few minutes prior to this so she's aware he has an attitude problem, I'm really not sure what's going to happen when I rock up in a while but I may well be back job hunting this evening (and before condolences start pouring in I won't be at all upset if that is the case: Life's too short to spend it working in close proximity with antagonistic bell ends and I'm sure the owner will give me a decent referral if it does go tits up).

Aye, dude seems to view me as a threat to his authority even though I've been compliant and done everything he's asked me to since he showed up. Mad paranoia there. Whatever happens the owner and her son will come down hard on him I'm sure so I doubt he'll treat other staff like he has me from now on, I hope not anyway.

Excellent stuff! I'm sure you stand a good chance, so long as you keep focused and prepare well. An exciting few years in prospect....

Head chef in temperamental personality / unreasonable behaviour shocker!

Pretty much part of the job description, isn't it (speaking as a one-time kitchen porter)!?

Good luck whatever happens, Carl. It seems to have been an interesting time for you lately!

Majority of today was great. We were given our Microsoft Surface Pro 3's today as we'll be working from home permanently soon. Superb device. Can't wait to start using it regularly.

Then the part of the day that let it all down is the one that Housing Officers hate to hear (let alone at 3pm on a Friday afternoon!) - 'there's been a fire at one of your flats'. :mad:.

Fire Service called out to the flat. Had to break the door open. Weird thing at the time was that the fire service get in but no-one is home. Numerous calls to the tenant but no answer. Begin to get a bit suspicious.

Then get another call from the fire service saying the tenant has returned to the property. Turns out she left a pot boiling on the cooker and then went out of the house to pick up her children :frusty:. However, very luckily for her is that there wasn't extensive damage and it didn't affect other flats above and to the side of her property.

Frustrates me how careless some tenants can be.

Cheers :D Tbf I was a little spoiled with the last chef being an all round great guy but this dude... what a cock.

So... last night he actually sat me down to tell me how I shouldn't ever talk back to him (read: defend yourself from one of his false accusations or calmly explain things to him when he's getting angry at nothing, things like why the filthy oven's on a 2-hour clean cycle during a 3-hour break between services when the only thing that needs to be oven-prepped goes in 5 minutes before service anyway, things like why I thought it might be a good idea to send him a text saying I was in traffic and may be late), how he's not my friend, how he's here as my superior and I'm just a KP to him etc., how if he tells me to clean the shelves he wants me to clean them (I did, he just didn't see it happening because he wasn't in the kitchen at the time and apparently he just assumed therefore that they hadn't been done without thinking to actually take a look and check) and how if I don't like it I can let 'them' (the owner and her son) know.    So I did.  I phoned the owner and told her what had happened and that I simply can't work with this guy and she should start looking for a replacement but that I would happily work the notice period or at least try to, she said she completely understood and that she'd have a word with him tomorrow (today) and asked me to try coping with him for the rest of the shift and we'd discuss it again in the morning.  I told him about all this and how he didn't need to worry about the things I said to her because being a snitch isn't my style so I'd kindly omitted and would continue to omit any mention of his coke use or the time he knocked a load of cooked veg on the floor, wouldn't listen to me saying that it's fine because we've got way more than enough already anyway and then forced me sweep it all up and put it in the sink with the intention of using it instead of the bin the dirty cvnt (obviously I was right and the manky veg never got used thank God) and then in response the daft twat accuses me of blackmail and starts raging at me again even though I'm telling him I'm doing him a favour so I decided I'd had enough I told him good luck and I walked out.

This morning I went back in and had a chat with the owner and made it clear to her that he's a good enough chef but he's a paranoid twat with a superiority complex and handed in my notice and suddenly the dude's all nicey nicey and treading on eggshells because I think he realises how upset the owner is by all this, but also how he's actually kinda fuched if it's just him in that kitchen so he really needs me to see out the notice period at the very least (owner's still talking about seeing what happens at the end of it and telling me I can come back to them if it doesn't work out elsewhere, but she also said I don't have to do the notice if I don't want to, especially if he's a **** again), he even gave me one of those "I might have done something bad... but so did you" lines which I'm pretty sure was his attempt at an apology.:D

Fortunately my old head chef reckons he can line me up a job in a couple of months and judging by the number of 'kitchen staff' wanted posters you see in restaurant windows around town it shouldn't be too hard to find something to keep me tided over in the meantime (of course they'll all dry up when I start actively looking for them no doubt).

Nah just that I sometimes work not far from Addenbrooks. So I'm near enough to pop by for a pint. What's the foxestalk codeword? "Blame Wellens"?

Nice, you're always welcome (presuming I'm still working there! :D).  You can tell if I'm around from the blue i10 with our kit dangling from the rear window.  Tell the barman "I thought Kermo was decent".

Do you ever go to the Flying Pig on Hills Rd?

So my two biggest and longest serving clients who generate about 75% of my income have both decided to part company with me this week - what are the odds of that?!

Oh well, never mind. It was good while it lasted :D

Time to get my Sales & Marketing machine back in gear which I hate with a passion.

The joys of working for ones self. You never know what's around the corner, and become accustomed to living with the ambiguity and uncertainty!

But I trust things will work themselves out. No point worrying or stressing about it - so onwards and upwards!!!

That's shit but if you're as good at networking and making friends as you are on here you'll be fine.

And if not, I'll buy a Big Issue of you lol
