Holloway Resigns as Plymouth manager

wether he comes to us or not he doesnt want to be there so surely they would want to appoint their new manager as soon as possible....

To be honest, I think its pretty inevitable now, if the reports are true that he was happy in Plymouth (somebody must be!), then there can only be one reason to quit.

Yep, more cash!! :D

I would imagine the 'Friday delay' gives them a chance to sound out Swindon officially or unofficially to see how much compo they want for Sturrock and if they are going to play silly buggers. I'm sure they'd like to have a replacement ready to roll ASAP.

Can't really blame them.

Swindon wont put up much of a fight, if the fools had held out for their compo they would of got Sturrock for half of what we payed them.

City set for talks with Holloway

by Bill Anderson

Leicester City look set to open talks soon with Plymouth Argyle boss Ian Holloway as their search for a new manager steps up a gear.

I understand there could be major developments at Home Park today which might clear the way for the 44-year-old to be available for talks with City, who have yet to make

an official approach.

Holloway knows from the welter of speculation that he could be of interest to City, and it looks likely he will ask Plymouth if he can explore the possibilities.

He did not take training yesterday and was locked in top-level talks with the Argyle board.

The Leicester move was probably the only item on the agenda and, significantly, Holloway is not expected at the club today either.

City chairman Milan Mandaric, below, is staying tight-lipped on the matter, and refuses to reveal the name of the manager he has identified as his target.

He said today: “The quest for the new manager is on-going. I am not naming any names but I still want it settled sooner rather than later, and certainly in time for the weekend.â€

Nevertheless, Holloway, who has so far remained silent on the speculation surrounding his future, has emerged as the clear front-runner, and events in the West Country might soon confirm that he could be on his way.

If that is the case, City will inevitably face a compensation claim from the Pilgrims, meaning further negotiations and establishing personal terms will also take time.

Plymouth, as clearly illustrated by yesterday's crisis board meeting, are reluctant to lose a boss who has done well. Holloway has steered Argyle to seventh spot in the Championship table, seven points and 10 positions better off than City.

But it is easy to see that the Walkers Stadium, a bigger fan base and an enthusiastically committed chairman who will back his manager with transfer cash, is an appealing prospect.

Holloway was a target for City in February last year after the departure of Craig Levein and, when he expressed an interest, he was put on gardening leave by QPR and then lost his job.

Holloway was born in Bristol and played for and managed Rovers for five years before taking over at QPR in 2001.

He was unable to prevent relegation to the third level but, despite Rangers going into administration, he got them automatically promoted in 2004 after reaching the play-off final the previous season.

He joined Plymouth as manager in June 2006, signing a three-year contract at the Home Park club.

As a player, he was a midfielder and played for seven clubs, including Bristol Rovers, twice, Wimbledon and QPR.

Have they given up the compo then?

I don't know, Holloways resignation leaves him free to go where he wants doesn't it? If they accept it. Which they don't have to.

I doubt it. Even if they agree to Holloway resigning, i'm sure we'd owe them compensation wouldn't we? Like we allowed Megson to resign and join Bolton.

They don't have to accept it, no, which is what they're currently doing. They know Mandaric has given his own fans a deadline and they know they can't really force Holloway to stay completely - after all, nobody wants an unsettled manager. Mandaric is a clever, tight fisted bastard and is probably trying to use that against them.

How I translate this, is that they know they can hang on for a few days without making a decision but we're in a more desperate situation. They're trying to force Mandaric into a situation where he must come up with their full asking price in terms of compensation.

I predict;

Plymouth announce tomorrow they have reluctantly agreed to accept Holloway's resignation, so that they can move on and appoint a successor for the sake of the club's stability.

Late tomorrow, we call a press conference for the following morning.

Holloway is unveiled as new LCFC manager on Friday morning.

Whats the point in professional contracts if it can just be ripped apart like that ala Holloway. If he was sacked, they'd have had to pay him compo but when he resigns he can just walk away free and the club and its fans suffer.

I want Ollie here, but I agree with Argyle fans. After all that talk about loyalty and togetherness and all that bollocks he just walks away when someone waves some serious money over his head. For those who have read his book you'd think he's a man with principles, loyalty and dignity but this is just a kick in the bollocks for Plymouth fans who've had to listen to him talk about this rubbish and then contradict himself big time.

How much money did Leicester really get from Bolton for Megson? Whatever, all of it is now going to Plymouth.

I'm no expert but my understanding of it is as follows;

You need permission to speak to someone under contract. Plymouth's board won't want to be seen to be giving up a valued manager without a fight so they will refuse permission. It is then up to Mandaric to negotiate compensation, otherwise Holloway will end up on gardening leave again. Plymouth will want a new manager in charge as it would be unthinkable now that Holloway would go back to them so they will accept a figure from Mandaric, who has obviously promised we will get somebody in ASAP so will want to get it sorted.

In summary, there's no way Holloway will leave Plymouth for free and there's no way he won't be our manager by the middle of next week at the very, very latest.

All in my humble opinion of course.

Plymouth fan here. Greetings.

Yes of course my club are messing Mandaric and Hollowhead around by considering the resignation on Friday. Do you blame them? I'm sure your club would do the same if it was the other way around. Whichever way you look at it, your club has tried to poach our manager on the cheap and my club is furious. So much so that don't be surpised if we make a stand and put Hollowhead on gardening leave.

By the way, if you finally get your man, don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth. Its all lies to boost his own popularity. But good luck to you. He's a damn good manager.

Humble opinion, but that sounds exactly how this will play out.

If he's not allowed to leave this week, Holloway will have to still manage against Sheffield Utd this Saturday, no? I wonder how that will be ... maybe the Plymouth board will give Holloway a "gardening leave" spell of their own on Friday.

The reason he ended up on gardening leave last time was pretty much because we were strapped at the time and had just had to pay CL off, surely?

Given that Holloway is full of desperate sexual frustrated women I can think of worse places to be sentanced to 10 years in.

Prisoner Cell Block H....

Don't think so. Paladini had the hump with him and stuck him on gardening leave but I don't think we were ever dead set on him becoming our new manager as it now appears Mandaric is.

He won't be in charge for the Sheffield United game now. He'll either already be here or he'll be in limbo over the weekend, they'll have someone else in charge (a la Rudkin, Stowell and Beaglehole) and we'll appoint him next week.

Actually no, we let Megson go and talk to Bolton.

It looks like the plymouth board think they can get more money from milan by sueing Holloway for breech of contract, than the cash Milan was offering them.

They are just wasting time.

But if we'd had money we could have come to some sort of arrangement. If we did want him, that is.

It will be Mandaric and the Plymouth board being silly about money, I bet we announce his appointment tomorrow afternoon.

I'm not sure how you arrive at "Whichever way you look at it, your club has tried to poach our manager on the cheap" Milan has played this by the book exactly as he said he would. All we can assume is that he made a proper approach and PA said no. Hence the subsequent events.
