Sparky Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 was just thinking of players coming through , have any the potential to be in the side within the next 3 years , i cant think of many Theo Walcott , probably our best hope Dean Ashton , if he stays fit will he be able to add something Steven Taylor , looks a good player but inconsistant for newcastle Gabriel Agbolahor , hope o neill can develop him further Matt Derbyshire , really reminds me of a Lineker type player but will he step up ? few of the top of my head , can anyone help lift my gloom

EDIT: Actually the main one, the one we're crying out for, is Ben Foster.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 In my opinion our best players coming through at the moment are pacy wide players like Ashley Young, Gabby Agbonlahor and Theo Walcott. Hopefully we'll play to their strengths and build a team around them from an attacking point of view.
Master Fox Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 Errmmm.... Richard Stearman!!!

I guess the making of him will be if he gets into the Arsenal side more regularly. He is still young though and has a long way to go but I would have thought a Rooney/Walcott partnership in the future is quite likely. I don't think Ashton, Defoe, Bent, Johnson has enough about them to be England regulars so we do really have to look to the youngsters for something to build upon.
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 Milner I hope, although I'm starting to think he wont get any better now.EDIT: Actually the main one, the one we're crying out for, is Ben Foster. Could not agree more. Steve Mac got it wrong last night. Admittedly Foster is injured but for Rob Green not to be in the squad was scandelous. We should have stuck Robbo in, he could have handled that last night...
Manwell Pablo Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 To be fair the goalkeeping issue last night is one thing I will keep stum about. I admit I said we should get Robbo out, I said we should play David James, however I wasn't upin arms about Scott Carson playing (until shortley before kick off when it was clear he was an absloute bag of nerves). We all asked for Robbo to be ditched and we got what we asked for.

I was saying the same thing mate, James has done his fair share of howlers but he has a lot of experience and would have preferred him over anyone else. My mate also said to me "look at him, he's gonna shit it" about Carson before the 1st goal!
Milky Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 In terms of the future of english football, i think one thing that really stood out last night, and it was magnified by the slippy surface, is that our players are far inferior in terms of technical ability. We need to get the youngsters, and i mean 9/10 year olds especially, to work with the ball as much as possible.

Finnegan Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 You need Tosh, telling you. We've done with him now, it's your turn. He'll find you a Bale, a Ched Evans, a Joe Ledley.
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 John Bostock would agree with that, looks an awesome prospect... im led to believe he is only 15 too.
Koke Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 I don't think Scott Carson is a particularly bad keeper. Yes he did bottle it last night and made a big howler but I honestly believe he's as good as any keeper we have here, even better than some. And also I don't think it was fair on him to get thrown into a game of this magnitude on this debut as well. You could see it coming miles away.
escape2victory Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 Id say the following players will hopefully come through and be the nucleus of our 2010 World Cup squad: * Ben Foster * Micah Richards * Steven Taylor * Nedum Onuoha * Tom Huddlestone * Ashley Young * James Milner * Gabby Agbonlahor * Theo Walcott Though you always get the odd one who crops up from nowhere like Rooney a few years ago. This should mean the end for the likes of James, Campbell, Neville, Beckham and maybe Owen also. May as well try and build a young squad that is geared up for 2010 rather than selecting players who in all probability wont be around in 2010.
David O'Leary Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 Joe Mattock, he will get better with experience

I'm not even joking.

lee7 Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 don't know if anyone has mentioned him but mark noble is a decent player.
Simi Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 I started a thread a while pick and asked people to pick to 2010 World Cup team, interesting to see the comparison now... LINK
OzFox311 Posted 24 November 2007 Posted 24 November 2007 What it will take is a complete cleanout, a new approach from top to bottom and a lot of luck... frankly England have become a joke the past few years and without some major restructure, I don't know if with the likes of Hiddink running Russia, you will be able to make SA 2010...

You a fan of Ana Ivanovic then? More of a Serena Williams fan myself but fair play to you... she's a mighty fine player... in more ways than one!
