Thracian Posted 26 November 2007 Posted 26 November 2007 Granted his set piece delivery can be special. However, at times his defending is woeful. He got caught out again in the 2nd half and ended up getting booked, that little lack of awareness plays quite a bit in his game and happens quite often. He is no great left back and he is certainly not a left winger either which makes me think even with his set piece delivery he wont last long (which is a shame) and is most likely a stop gap until replaced in January with Tony Capaldi or someone similar... Anyone would have been caught out in that situation and he had the presence of mind to foul the bloke instead of letting him go through into what would have been a dangerous situation.
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 26 November 2007 Posted 26 November 2007 Anyone would have been caught out in that situation and he had the presence of mind to foul the bloke instead of letting him go through into what would have been a dangerous situation. But it happens too often.... Just not a defender that can be relied on IMO
Jimmy Posted 26 November 2007 Posted 26 November 2007 i thought some of his corners were quite poor but his crosing from open play and free kick deliveries were top notch
The Reverend Posted 26 November 2007 Posted 26 November 2007 I thought he was good today. Unfortunately he got his customary yellow, but his set pieces were very good, and his defending is definitely improving, no doubt. I like the lad.
Flynny Posted 26 November 2007 Posted 26 November 2007 I like him at left-wing a lot. Not so good at left-back, but he linked up brilliantly with Hayes, far better than with Mattock, and that left-side did a lot for our revival towards the end of the game. Good for him.
Manwell Pablo Posted 26 November 2007 Posted 26 November 2007 Anyone would have been caught out in that situation and he had the presence of mind to foul the bloke instead of letting him go through into what would have been a dangerous situation. He create that situation himself by not reading and getting over quickly enough, but yes it was a good ball and much as I hate proffesional fouls he did prevent a very dangerous situation.

I thought that said more about Hayes than Sheehan. Hayes was a breath of fresh air when he came on and he sure as hell knows how to cross a ball. I think if he's proper fit then he should play left wing and then let Mattock and Sheehan battle out for the left back spot.
Master Fox Posted 26 November 2007 Posted 26 November 2007 There were some mighty fine great balls out there tonight for all to see..

Hayes was the dominant one around the 70 minute mark, but he got dragged into the centre of the pitch when Fryatt got too knackered to lead the line, and Sheehan was really knocking it about at will for the last 20 minutes. But yeah, Hayes definitely had a good game. Maybe Mattock should start from the bench on Saturday.

Manwell Pablo Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 some times a professional foul is as valuable and as important as a 30 yard screamer Yes, were did I say they weren't, I still detest them though. They're unsporting and are part of the must win attitude of proffesional sport these days that I hate.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I'm fairly confident Fulop would have dealt with all of Sheehan's set pieces with reasonable ease tonight. Schmeichel wasn't commanding enough - you can't let balls come all the way across the six yard box like he did. That's not a criticism of Sheehan though, he did well to recognise this failing early on and put Schmeichel under some real pressure. We were very unlucky not to score from at least one of them.
Bryn Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Anyone would have been caught out in that situation and he had the presence of mind to foul the bloke instead of letting him go through into what would have been a dangerous situation. Bollocks. That was one of his bad moments. He sold himself to the defender by charging in like a headless chicken rather than moving over into a good position (Wasn't it you a few weeks ago saying he was more of a positional, zonal marker than a tough tackling fullback?), then fouled him to make up for it. Sheehan was excellent tonight but don't make out that his one poor moment was clever. It really wasn't.

And no Thracian thats not a shot at Alan Sheehan who had a very good game tonight, it's a shot at you!
Master Fox Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I really enjoyed seeing those balls tonight...
Master Fox Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I've never seen balls quite like the balls i saw on show tonight!
TrickyTrev Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 His inswinging corners tonight were a real threat. He needs to learn how to defend because he is never a left midfielder and thus is gonna have to try and carve out a career for himself at left back. Seems to be playing with a lot more confidence than at the start of the season.
Raj Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Sheehan was CRAP!!!! ONLY JOKING....WELL PLAYED SHEEHAN!!!!
teblin Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Played very well first half, need a left back though as he can't defend. He has to be in the side for the quality he puts in. If only we had a decent target man!
Ric Flair Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Not read this thread but Alan Sheehan's set piece deliveries are sublime, but his crossing from open play is dreadful for the majority of the time. Can't work out why that is? But i'm not the only one who shares that view. Great corners though.

I thought he was excellent down the left flank
Ric Flair Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I thought last night some of his crosses from open play were excellent. I thought he was excellent down the left flank I thought he had a good game last night, especially first half. But his crossing from open play is nowhere near the standard of his set pieces. Jonny Hayes crossing looked quite decent as well. I think there's some hope down the left hand side right now, which wasn't looking the case a few weeks ago. Sheehan is improving and fair play to the lad. If he can learn to defend a bit better and his awareness and crossing from open play improves then we'll have a very good player at this level.
